Starting a club golf team over the summer

Summer is for golf

3 of the 4 majors are hosted during the summer. Most of your amateur golf tournaments are held during the summer. And for the large majority of the country, the weather is great.

So it's no coincidence that we at the NCCGA (National Collegiate Club Golf Association) usually see a large increase in the number of college students interested in club golf over the summer months. They are in the golf mood, and want to keep playing through the school year. We love it!

While starting a club golf team over the summer can seem tough (after all, most students are not on campus), it really isn't. The summer actually provides a great time to really sit down and determine the club's goals, budget, recruiting plan, and social strategy before the craziness of the academic year begins. All the prep work can be done over the summer, so as soon as school begins and students get on campus the club is ready to roll!

My colleague Mike Kersys, a Zone Manager for the NCCGA, recently wrote a blog article on 5 specific steps students can take over the summer to put their club in a good position entering the school year. Take a look if you're interested in playing club golf this fall!
