This is the time in your life to take risks

In this series, professionals share what they'd do differently — and keep the same.Follow the stories here and write your own (please use #IfIWere22 in your post).

When I was 22, I was a newlywed who was ridiculously confident of what my life would be like in the future. I was going to have a 3 bedroom house in the suburbs and have my last child by age 30.  Well the universe had other plans....At 48 I am working at my #dreamjob for @LinkedIn, live in a condo in San Francisco and an aunt to many.

At 24 I was single and a bit stuck on what I would do next.  It took me a few years to figure out that this was the time I could go anywhere and accomplish my new goals.

Most of us have less responsibility at 22 so the choices we make will have much less impact on others in our lives.  This is the time where you need less of a safety net.  I had a few opportunities to relocate or take international assignments come my way in my early 20's that I turned down because I was so risk averse. Risks I took 10 years later at 32 that turned out to be game changing. I moved coasts and found myself in a career that I hadn't imagined for myself at 22.

#ifIWere22 I would jump right in to all experiences and learn from experimentation on which direction would be the right one for me.

Thanks for sharing this article! This is a good wake up call to not stay in your comfort zone but always keep learning and growing and most importantly changing - even at the age of 26.

Agree! Take those risks when you are earlier on in your career and more free to do so! Then we you get older and hold more personal responsibility, you take intelligent risks and weigh them out a bit more as you have others depending on you.

So happy you took the leap, proving that there's no such thing as "too late." Control your destiny and take risks at every age!
