VMware Private Cloud Strategy: Where We Are and Where We're Headed

What’s changed, and what hasn’t

Welcome back to VMware Cloud Connect! In our first newsletter since VMware joined Broadcom, we’ll fill you in on what has changed and, maybe more importantly, what hasn’t.

We’ve focused efforts on our private cloud solutions that combine public-cloud scale and agility with private-cloud security and performance. We’ve reinforced our commitment to customers, and reinvested in valued partner relationships. And we’ve streamlined our offerings, prioritizing simplicity and control.

Offering Greater Choice and Flexibility

Let’s back up a bit, and talk more about Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware. We’re happy to share that customers can anticipate continued innovation and investment from Broadcom across the VMware portfolio of products and services.

With an engineering-first technology focus, Broadcom powers the most complex IT environments in the world. The tech powerhouse has been at the forefront of innovation for over 60 years, and you likely interact with Broadcom products every day, as over 99 percent of all internet traffic crosses some kind of Broadcom technology.

Broadcom President and CEO Hock Tan says that the acquisition of VMware provides customers with greater choice and flexibility, allowing them to simplify their IT environment. Customers want to easily distribute applications across environments from on-premises to cloud and Hock stresses, “The future of enterprise IT is private and hybrid cloud.”

As part of Broadcom, VMware offers leading solutions for cloud infrastructure, app-delivery acceleration, lateral security, load balancing, and edge and telco infrastructure.

Hock Tan and VMware division leaders talk change

Hock Tan and VMware division leaders sat down with industry experts from The Six Five for candid post-acquisition Q&A sessions about the future.

Hock focused on the flexibility of VMware offerings, saying, “VMware is about the only solution out there that can enable [companies] to both run on-prem, and migrate those same workloads as time progresses, conditions change, to their public cloud of choice.”

VMware Cloud Foundation division SVP and GM Krish Prasad said the combined company enables customers to modernize their infrastructure and drive enhanced resiliency, security and cloud agility. He stressed the ongoing commitment to customers post-acquisition, explaining, “[I worked] very closely with Hock and team in planning out the integration of the two companies. And one of the things that really impressed me is the amount of time that Hock spent with the VMware customers listening to their requirements and concerns.”

Purnima Padmanabhan and Sanjay Uppal, leaders of the Tanzu and Software-Defined Edge divisions, respectively, also opened up about the acquisition’s effect on their divisions. Watch additional Q&As with SixFive and dive into more post-acquisition changes.

VMware Cloud Foundation Announcements

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) unveiled its latest advancements focused on increasing customers’ digital innovation with faster infrastructure modernization. The update improves developer productivity while prioritizing better cyber resiliency and security with the lowest total cost of ownership. Read all about it.

We’re also excited to share that VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA has now reached general availability, deepening Broadcom’s partnership with NVIDIA. This Gen AI platform, available as an add-on to VCF, will help customers power their generative AI initiatives. Features include GPU monitoring dashboards and temperature monitoring, as well as PowerCLI scripts that assist customers in establishing infrastructure for AI workloads.

In other news, we recently launched an instance recovery solution, which provides guidance on recovering a VCF instance from zero. The new solution is meant to guide customers through recovery from issues like complete site failures, malicious attacks, and catastrophic logical corruption.

We also announced new license portability withGoogle Cloud VMware Engine andMicrosoft’s Azure VMware Solution. Stay up-to-date on all VMware Cloud Foundation division news with our webinar series.

The next step in Tanzu’s evolution is here

In May, we launched VMware Tanzu Platform — a comprehensive cloud-native solution that simplifies app development across environments.

Tanzu Platform brings together all the best features of previous Tanzu iterations. The platform provides organizations with developer simplicity and app-centricity regardless of application type, business requirements or runtime needs, all while maintaining a high level of security and operational standards.

With features like streamlined commands, deep integration with the Java development framework Spring, and a common control pane for app lifecycle management, Tanzu Platform helps companies simplify the path to production and build better software, faster.

Tanzu Division VP and GM Purnima Padmanabhan reports that the platform enables businesses to scale and secure app development as well as keep an eye on cost. “That is the power that a true platform can offer,” she says.

In looking to the future, Broadcom is also prioritizing the partner ecosystem by simplifying partner programs, driving predictable profitability, and increasing the opportunity for sales and services.

I have not heard of a single customer who is happy with the current VMWare/Broadcom "strategy". The strategy seems to be to get rid of all their customers - at least this is their understanding and the reactions will follow. Of course AWS offers very competitive alternatives and has lowered its prices 134 times since 2006.

Sorry, but I have to say that VMware lost all my trust, I also tried to summarize that in a posting what changed for us as a cloud provider since Broadcom took over: https://anx.io/U1VQ2

As an HR specialist, I see VMware's private cloud strategy not only enhancing technological infrastructure but also positively impacting talent management. The flexibility and security offered allow companies to create more stable and attractive work environments for employees, facilitating retention and satisfaction. Moreover, the modernization of infrastructure can free up human resources to focus on strategic initiatives, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous development.
