What's up from of COP 28

it is 13 more days to COP 28 and here is a summary of what to expect;

Stocktake: The conclusion of the world's first Global Stocktake (GST), which assessed the level of progress made since the Paris Agreement's implementation. This will help coordinate efforts on climate action, and provide direction on the measures that will be implemented to bridge the gaps identified.

Based on the Co-chairs' summary of the presidencies towards COP 28, which was released earlier this year, the following outcome has been made accessible so far; these are expected to dominate the discourse at the conference.

1. The growing gap between the needs of developing countries and the current scale of climate finance was identified. Parties call on developed countries to deliver on their financial commitments, including the USD 100 billion per year and doubling adaptation finance by 2025.

2. Parties also discuss the need for an enhanced focus on mitigation ambition, implementation of NDCs, and the development of long-term low-emission development strategies (LT-LEDS).

3. There a call for early action on phasing down unabated coal and inefficient fossil fuel subsidies, as well as the phase-out of all fossil fuels.

4. Parties discuss the just transition work programme, emphasizing the need for inclusivity and the sharing of experiences and best practices.

5. Adequate means of implementation are highlighted to support developing countries in their transition efforts.

Parties prioritize key areas such as the global stocktake, loss and damage funding, adaptation, finance, mitigation, and the just transition.

Overall, the document highlighted the importance of implementing existing commitments and pledges, as well as the need for political leadership and action to achieve ambitious outcomes at COP 28.

Beyond these, the daily programme of each day of the conference will be published UNFCC website on the eve of 30 November.

Will you be attending? Enjoy!
