Why you can't find recruiters to hire.

Why you can't find recruiters to hire.

I feel like I need to put this out there for everyone to think about -

I'm being contacted daily by new and existing recruitment clients, all with the same problem - they can't find good quality, experienced recruiters!

Everybody is hiring, the markets are busy, but finding recruiters with any valuable experience is harder than ever - WHY?!

It is simply a knock-on effect from last year. This is the conversation I'm having daily with clients & prospects about the main experience levels they're trying to hire:

*6 months - 18 months experience*

Think about it, the panic of 2020 saw almost every single trainee let go.

We're now in May, and so there are almost zero recruiters in the industry with 12-18 months experience (because this time last year, there were no new starters!) I've seen plenty of trainees taken on this year, so give it another 3-6 months and that level will be back to good numbers!

*18 months - 3 years experience*

This bunch are a bit different. Those who were let go were either snapped up again fairly quickly, moved internally, or left the industry altogether.

Those who kept their jobs are now working comfortably from home, billing well with busy clients, and likely inherited big contract books or perm accounts! There's a lot of loyalty to employers for keeping them on - why would they leave that to start again??

*3 years - 7 years+ experience*

Do you know the number of new recruitment businesses set up in 2020? I don't. But it was a lot! And it was thanks to this bunch.

Similar to the above if they kept their positions. But those who lost their jobs then very likely set up on their own and are doing well! So they're not looking...

The main thing to realise is peoples current situations, many recruiters are still working from home and billing better than last year - a huge reason of people leaving their jobs is because of the office environment/management/colleagues. Working from home eliminates 99% of these, they have no other reason to think of a move. Now that offices are reopening, this will soon begin to change.

Bit wordy I know, but I hope this makes sense. Agreed? Disagreed? I'd appreciate everyone's thoughts.

Absolutely agree with this! I fall into the 3-7 years experience bracket & went self employed after my last agency was making covid redundancies... I’m being approached every day but am doing well at the moment & enjoying the autonomy of being able to work on any roles I want to, not being restricted by location, fees or anything else! 🙂

Summed it up very well! Saw somewhere that is was around 7-8,000 new agencies that recruiters launched in 2020 🤔

People leaving the industry last year has had a huge impact. In my opinion, mainly through the fault of the employers.
