Four campuses across Colorado, united in making a difference.
About us
The University of Colorado plays a profound role in the lives of individuals, businesses and communities throughout Colorado, across the country and around the world. Nearly half a million alumni are leaders in business, science, the arts, health care and their communities, and they’re joined by some 15,000 more each year. In Aurora, Boulder, Colorado Springs and Denver, all four campuses are all for Colorado. At CU Boulder, students put their knowledge to use in areas of study ranging from archaeological finds in the arctic to improving the classroom experience to working with NASA to conduct research in space. CU Boulder is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. UCCS, among the fastest growing universities in the state and nation, is a residential academic and research mainstay in southern Colorado, partnering with major corporations and federal agencies to provide leading-edge education ranging from cybersecurity, business to theater to nursing outreach programs for rural areas. CU Denver awards the most master’s degrees of any public institution in the state, has strengths in business, engineering, public affairs, computer science, art and digital media, and is a leader in sustainability. Located in downtown Denver, CU Denver is a commuter campus with nearby housing options and a wide range of online course and degree offerings. A state-of-the-art medical center, the CU Anschutz Medical Campus is globally recognized for its research, teaching and clinical programs in public health, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy and nursing. The CU Anschutz Medical Campus is also home to University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado. The CU School of Medicine’s roots reach back more than 100 years, when it opened in Boulder. Although not a campus, CU South Denver in Parker hosts a variety of courses from all four campuses.

Today marks Phil DiStefano's final day as chancellor of the University of Colorado Boulder after serving 15 years in the role. Thankfully, he’s not going far: He’ll return to the faculty in the School of Education, where he first began his CU career in 1974, and will also serve as executive director of the CU Center for Leadership. His commitment to CU is remarkable, as is his profound impact on thousands of CU students, faculty and staff over the years. As chancellor, Phil further elevated CU Boulder’s profile as one of our nation’s finest research universities and a leader in science, arts, humanities, climate, health, and engineering. He has overseen the creation of groundbreaking institutes and centers, including the BioFrontiers Institute, the Renee Crown Wellness Institute, and the Center for African and African American Studies. He guided CU Boulder through a global pandemic. He helped facilitate the hiring of several coaches, breathing new life into the Buffs Athletics program on many fronts. Phil has been instrumental in positioning CU Boulder as a force for good in the world – an institution that is committed to finding solutions to the challenges we face today. I’m honored to have worked with Phil – a stalwart champion for higher education – and am incredibly grateful for his many exceptional contributions to this university. Thank you, Phil!

My 15 years as chancellor of the University of Colorado Boulder have been the most challenging, rewarding and exhilarating of my professional career. The relationships I’ve enjoyed across campus, with peers in higher education, with outstanding alumni and supporters, with our University of Colorado leadership and Regents, and throughout the Boulder community have been among the most meaningful parts of the role. As we prepare to welcome Chancellor Justin Schwartz to CU Boulder, I’m excited to see our wonderful campus from a new perspective. Starting July 1, you can find me in my new role with the Center for Leadership at CU Boulder. I’m thrilled to continue working with students and this outstanding campus community to develop the next generation of leaders. Go Buffs!
