The U.S. #greenhydrogen sector faces regulatory uncertainty, particularly with the proposed IRA Section #45V tax credit. Understanding its impact on project design and commercial conditions is crucial. Key recommendations for optimizing hydrogen projects include: 1️⃣ Model realistic operations: It’s essential to take into account renewable intermittency, limited grid connection, minimum operating rates, ramp rates and shutdowns in order to evaluate a business case effectively. 2️⃣ Maximize flexibility: Set contract conditions to model the full value chain, allowing producers and consumers to adapt to varying conditions, improving the business case. 3️⃣ Unify team views: Ensure engineering, legal, business, and financial teams work together on a single model to create valuable business cases. Balancing compliance and cost efficiency is essential for sustainable, profitable projects. Navigating the global energy transition is a defining challenge of our time, requiring immediate and concrete action. Last week, we discussed this at the inaugural edition of the Global Energy Transition Congress and Exhibition (GET). We are proud to have been a key supporter of this event, contributing to the debate on the energy transition. This event provided an invaluable platform for connecting with a global community of experts and innovators, all committed to finding solutions to advance the energy transition. Here are some key takeaways from our discussions: 💰 Investment in innovation: Embracing technology alone is not enough for the energy industry to navigate its unprecedented and rapid changes. Companies must also adopt new organizational cultures, ways of working, and skills, alongside forming strategic partnerships. This holistic approach is vital for genuine innovation, ensuring success in the energy transition, and attracting and retaining the next generation of talent. 🚚 Lower emissions logistics: The global supply chains are pivotal for the energy transition by ensuring the availability of materials and products where needed. However, challenges such as protectionist trading policies, lengthy permitting processes, and geographic concentration of production hinder this fluidity. Overcoming these obstacles is essential to globally optimize supply chains towards a greener future, emphasizing that the time to act is now. 🚢 Decarbonizing global shipping: Effective decarbonization of the global shipping industry requires collaboration across the entire ecosystem. Essential regulations are not optional but mandatory. Given that fossil fuels will still be in use for some time, the focus must be on finding ways to reduce their usage and minimize the emissions they generate. 🌍 Energy transition in Sub-Saharan Africa: The energy transition in this region presents significant opportunities, necessitating collaboration across society. Public sectors need to create the right enabling environment, while private and philanthropic actors must bring in the necessary innovation and capital. This comprehensive approach ensures a fair and just transition, with Africa’s critical mineral resources playing a crucial role in global emission reduction targets. Thank you to everyone who joined us at the GET Congress & Exhibition. We look forward to seeing you at the next edition!
