Are dealmakers in the mood for M&A? Find out with the newly launched BCG M&A Sentiment Index! To understand where the M&A market is heading, executives need more than a quarterly or semiannual snapshot of past deal activity. BCG’s M&A Sentiment Index fills this gap by providing monthly updates of dealmakers’ willingness to make the substantial investments required to buy and sell companies. The July M&A Sentiment Index indicates a mixed outlook for deal-making activity through the remainder of 2024. The current index value of 78 is below the ten-year average of 100, aligning it with moderate M&A activity globally and across many industries. However, the M&A market has gained some momentum, recovering significantly from the low point of 62 in November 2023. Bookmark it here: https://lnkd.in/ejn8e9WP

The M&A market is slowly rebounding from last year’s trough. The global value of M&A activity in the first half of 2024 was $1.0 trillion—4% higher than that of the same period last year but below the ten-year average of $1.5 billion. Going forward, factors such as the ongoing push for digitization, the energy transition, and the need to future-proof business models, will motivate M&A. However, the timing of deals will be influenced by interest rates, valuation levels, regulatory moves, and geopolitical events. For the first time, decision-makers can combine insights on market activity and trends with a quantified and statistically reliable indicator of where the M&A market is heading. The source is BCG’s M&A Sentiment Index. This newly launched index provides a monthly update on dealmakers' willingness to engage in M&A over roughly the next six months. There are four main elements of assessing divestiture readiness. Uwe Berberich explains in this new video.
Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) | Head of Corporate Finance & Strategy Practice in Central Europe | Global People Chair Corporate Finance & Strategy
We often compare a large divestiture to a decathlon: numerous work streams that must be coordinated and come together in a very short period of time. Making a successful deal in such a high-pressure situation requires careful planning, beginning with ensuring that both the seller and the asset are ready to go through one of the most complex actions that a company can take. Is it the right time to divest the asset? What’s the right approach? Who are the potential buyers and what are their expectations? In this new video, I discuss how to navigate answering these questions and more, and outline the four main elements of assessing divestiture readiness.
