As the result of years of community-led efforts to stop the spread of dangerous pollution, Fulcrum Centerpoint LLC has failed to secure land for a toxic petrochemical facility in Gary, Indiana.   The proposed facility faced strong pushback and legal challenges from community leaders, who pointed to the project’s woefully incomplete emissions projections and the health risks to Gary communities. If built, the site would have burned plastic to turn into fuel, emitting an estimated 300,000+ tons of greenhouse gasses and hundreds of tons of air pollution each year. Gary families already face some of the highest levels of industrial pollution in the country, putting them at risk of cancer, heart attack, asthma, and more.   Thank you to Gary Advocates for Responsible Development, Conservation Law Center, and others for leading the effort to stop petrochemical pollution and put communities first.   #beyondpetrochemicals #peopleoverpollution
