New from CSPS: The Space Development Agency and the Future of Defense Space Acquisitions 🛰 The Space Development Agency is at the forefront of the United States Department of Defense's efforts to reshape U.S. space capabilities, with plans to acquire and field hundreds of satellites over the next few years. Although still early in executing its plans, SDA has already shown that it can field systems with impressive speed, leading to claims that it has created a model for rapid acquisition that other defense organizations can follow. In this paper, Andrew Berglund analyzes the SDA's model for rapid acquisition and outlines some of the challenges that other defense acquisition organizations may have in adopting that model. It also considers some of the challenges that the SDA may face in sustaining its model, such as budgetary and acquisition flexibility.
