The Department of Medicine consists of 13 divisions spanning the breadth of Internal Medicine. These subspecialty divisions work as one through a centralized organization and administration to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. Many of our faculty are leaders in their respective fields, and more than half of the divisions are ranked in the top 20 by US News and World Report. Each division has its own administration, clinics, research, and fellowship programs.

Please join us as we celebrate our 2024 Seldin-Smith Awardee: Benjamin Izar, MD, PhD. The 2024 Award recognizes Dr. Izar for his insights into the intersection of cancer genetics, tumor-immune interactions, and the biological and treatment-associated mechanisms of disease progression. His lab has developed innovative single-cell genomics and genome-editing tools to study patient tumors and models at extremely high resolution. Dr. Anna Greka, the ASCI's 2024-2025 President, will introduce Dr. Izar, who will provide a brief presentation on his research and clinical program, and his path to becoming a physician-scientist. His presentation will be followed by live Q&A.

It's #HHT Awareness Month. Here's a great article on HHT, "When a Nosebleed Isn't Just a Nosebleed." Columbia's HHT Center Treats an Underdiagnosed Disorder. Most of the time, nosebleeds are harmless, but when they run in the family, recur frequently, or are accompanied by tiny red spots on the skin, they may indicate a rare, genetic condition called hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT).
