Dr. Mark Alter, CMO at our portfolio company Array Behavioral Care, recently penned an op ed on the subject of mental health care in the emergency department. Hospital emergency departments are increasingly the front line of care for mental health crises, and yet are not always well equipped to manage the increase in volume and care that these patients require. Less than 50% of emergency departments have psychiatric services, and high stress environments can exacerbate symptoms. Fortunately, with the rise of technologies like #telepsychiatry there are opportunities to ease the pressure on emergency departments and get patients the targeted, nuanced care they need to make a recovery.
