The U.S. energy sector is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by state and federal policies that are reducing emissions, promoting innovative technologies, and supporting domestic manufacturing while creating high-wage jobs across the country. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) 2024 U.S. Energy Employment Report (USEER) examines employment trends across both traditional and emerging energy sectors, highlighting the expansion of the energy workforce and the growth of new domestic supply chain roles. Key findings include: 🟢 Job creation: Clean energy accounted for 6% of all newly created jobs in the United States in 2023. 🟢 Growth rate: Employment in clean energy grew at twice the rate of traditional energy sectors and the overall economy. 🟢 Workforce diversity: Unionization increased in utilities and construction, along with a significant rise in employment for military veterans and Latino or Hispanic workers, who now hold one-third of new clean energy jobs. 🟢 Hiring trends: Employers reported improved ease in hiring qualified workers compared to the previous year. These insights underscore the transformative impact of clean energy investments and their role in building a more dynamic and inclusive workforce. #DidYouKnow: Semiconductors are important for key products that are used by millions of Americans every day – from air conditioners to smartphones! Since 2010, overall semiconductor application energy use – largely comprised of computing and communications - has doubled every three years. By 2030, just one semiconductor application alone – computing – could consume nearly 20% of planetary energy production. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is working to increase the overall energy efficiency of semiconductor applications by a factor of 1,000 over the next two decades. The Energy Efficiency Scaling for 2 Decades (EES2) national initiative aims to get chips and other semiconductor industry products back on the path of doubling energy efficiency every two years to increase the economic competitiveness of American microelectronics manufacturers and strengthen domestic clean energy supply chains. DOE’s Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Office, part of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, has announced a Request for Information to solicit public comments on its EES2 initiative and its draft EES2 R&D Roadmap. The IRA is creating jobs, advancing energy justice, strengthening national security, and helping hard-working American families save money on energy and transportation. More than 3.4 million U.S. households claimed $8.4 billion in IRA tax breaks this year for home energy efficiency projects like door and window upgrades, insulation, skylights, electric heat pumps and rooftop solar panels. At the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), U.S. Department of Energy, we’re thrilled to celebrate such remarkable progress and 100% committed to continuing this exciting momentum. #InflationReductionAct #CleanEnergyWin #CleanEnergyJobs
