Skinsights: The damaging effects of visible light and how antioxidants can help mitigate them. Many patients, and even some dermatologists, are unaware that visible light (VL) from the sun is actually harmful and that not all broad-spectrum sunscreens contain protection from VL-induced free radicals. It has been clinically proven that VL generates reactive oxygen species in all skin tones; this excess of free radicals manifests as skin damage and pigmentary disorders.
