"Solar Package I" has revolutionized the way solar energy projects are approached in Germany. With its recent enforcement, a precedent has been set for integrating nature conservation with renewable energy development. This innovative policy ensures that at least three of the five key environmental criteria are met, for ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) installations to receive financial support under the German Renewable Energies Act (EEG). In a significant move, the UK Government has launched a consultation on the proposed enhancements to the Guaranteed Standards Scheme (GSS) for #water and sewerage services. This initiative could see compensations for customer service failures potentially doubling. Key proposed changes include increasing compensation to ~10% of the average annual bill for some service failures, with payments ranging from up to £250 for low pressure, and up to £2,000 for internal flooding from sewers. Stakeholders and affected parties are encouraged to participate in the consultation process before the deadline of 7 October 2024.
