Greenberg Traurig's Miami office recently hosted “Tech in Florida: Bridging Talent and Diversity” in partnership with Cyber Florida: The Florida Center for Cybersecurity and Girls in Tech, Inc.. GT Senior Vice President and Miami Co-Managing Shareholder Jaret Davis shared in the opening remarks the importance of changing some of the current industry stats. Among executives in high-tech industries, 57% of employees are white, 36% are Asian American, less than 2% are Hispanic, and less than 1% are African American, according to a report by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Of those in the executive category, about 80% are men, while only 20% are women. “If you have people from various walks of life and perspectives, you will always benefit in business. You will always see opportunities when people don’t see them. That’s been our firm’s history over the past 60 years,” Davis said. Litigation Shareholder Jake Evans added that Greenberg Traurig remains focused on building the tech ecosystem both in Miami and beyond. “The topics of today’s panels are at the core of Greenberg Traurig’s values and have great synergies with what we represent,” added Evans. Panel members, comprised of visionary leaders and industry pioneers, discussed cybersecurity, education, and hiring practices impacting those in the technology arena, as well as how diverse perspectives impact innovation and growth. Pictured here is panel moderator James Aldrich (Associate Director for Education & Training, Florida Center for Cybersecurity), and panelists Brian Fonseca (Executive Director, Florida International University’s Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy), Dr. Eman El-Sheikh (Associate Vice President and Professor, University of West Florida Center for Cybersecurity), Jay Hunter Anson (Senior Cybersecurity Analyst, Lennar Technology Group), and Sonia Samaroo (Educational Specialist, Miami-Dade County Public Schools). #Technology #TechIndustry #Diversity #GTFlorida #GTMiami #GTAtlanta #GAIN
