Ziren has extensive research experience in Economic Psychology, with published work in peer-reviewed journals. We’re excited to celebrate the success of our Startup Academy graduates. Through this transformative program, our students had the incredible opportunity to live and work in Silicon Valley—the global hub of innovation. Their hard work and dedication were recognized with a proud feature on the Nasdaq MarketSite tower in Times Square, highlighting the impact of their experience in this unique collaboration with the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center. This summer, 22 Lehigh University students were paired with 13 startups for hands-on, project-based internships, enhanced by a one-credit course that deepened their learning and understanding of entrepreneurship. Beyond the classroom, students had unparalleled mentorship and networking opportunities, connecting with industry leaders and innovators in the heart of San Francisco. On July 25th, in the heart of San Francisco, Lehigh University alumni and friends gathered to celebrate the Startup Academy Class of 2024. The evening highlighted the contributions of our talented interns, as they shared the projects they worked on, how they overcame challenges, and the key lessons they gained from their experiences in Silicon Valley. Attendees networked with entrepreneurial leaders and connected with the interns and companies, hearing firsthand about their journeys over the summer. Summer in San Francisco with Lehigh@NasdaqCenter ✨ Living and working in San Francisco has been a transformative experience for our Startup Academy interns. Students worked side by side, and explored the city together, forming lasting bonds and creating unforgettable memories. Spending the summer in the global hub of entrepreneurship and innovation, they immersed themselves in San Francisco's rich history and iconic landmarks. One memorable highlight was our group outing to a San Francisco Giants game, giving the students a taste of the local sports culture and community spirit. Each student was paired with an industry mentor in their field of interest, receiving personalized guidance and coaching throughout the 10-week internship program. These mentorship relationships are truly transformative, offering students not just new knowledge and expanded networks but also a sense of support and encouragement. By sharing their professional journeys and expert advice, our mentors help students grow both personally and professionally. In addition to connecting with their assigned mentors, students had the opportunity to engage with other mentors at our mentor meetup. This broader interaction allowed them to gain diverse perspectives, learn from various industry experiences, and further expand their professional networks. Congrats Nikita Chaudhari on graduating from Lehigh University! A Masters in Computer Science student from India, we were honored to have Nikita in the Silicon Valley Innovation Internship, through which she interned for six months as a data analyst with startup Auto Ninjas, co-founded by LU alum Christopher Szafranski. Here are some snapshots from our Startup Academy class this summer! While living and working in San Francisco, the interns immersed themselves in continuous learning through a 1-credit course designed to propel them forward on their entrepreneurial journey. The course featured insights from entrepreneurs and industry leaders in Silicon Valley. Students learned about various career pathways through the entrepreneurial ecosystem, gained real-world insights into startup fundamentals, and got a deep dive into what it takes to build and scale companies in the global center for innovation and high-tech. Startup Academy's unique combination of classroom learning and hands-on experience at early-stage ventures helped our students develop their professional skills and expand their networks. Marc Tarpenning '27P, Tesla Co-Founder and now Venture Partner at Spero Ventures, shared his incredible journey with our Lehigh@NasdaqCenter Startup Academy students last week. Spero Ventures focuses on early-stage investments in well-being, sustainability, learning, work, and play. Marc's session on venture financing provided immense value to our students by offering real-world perspectives and practical advice on how to start and scale a successful business. His insights into the highs and lows of starting Tesla gave our students a rare behind the scenes look at what it took to build one of the most innovative companies of all time. Dr. Willy Das, Senior Research Scientist at Lehigh@NasdaqCenter, recently shared research-backed strategies for maintaining founder wellbeing in Startups Magazine. Here are some strategies for entrepreneurs to avoid burnout 💡 1️⃣ Create Balance: Establish a healthy work-life balance to avoid exhaustion. 2️⃣ Set Boundaries: Clearly define work hours to ensure time for rest and personal life. 3️⃣ Build a Support Network: Surround yourself with a strong community for emotional and professional support. 4️⃣ Prioritize Mental Health: Regularly engage in activities that promote mental wellness. 5️⃣ Stay Flexible: Adapt to changes and challenges to minimize stress. Recognizing that entrepreneurs often face significant physical and mental distress, Lehigh University, the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center, and TU Dortmund University in Germany, are launching a comprehensive study on entrepreneurial wellbeing. Co-led by Daniela Gimenez Jimenez, this study aims to raise awareness of the unique challenges entrepreneurs face and provide evidence-based support strategies.
