The Neurology EMG lab teams at Mayo Clinic in Florida have been fiercely competing in what they call the “EMG Lab Summer Olympics.” Throughout the month, they have been practicing their skills with a twist on the Olympic games. After their opening ceremony and torch lighting, Team Tech, Team Staff Physicians, and Team Neurology CNP Residents will compete in testing their neurophysiology technical and creativity skills through three events: Nerve Conduction Heptathlon, Uneven Bars (Best False Decrement), and Synchronized Ground Wire Dance Routine. Mayo Clinic scientists are using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to analyze electroencephalogram (EEG) tests more quickly and precisely, enabling neurologists to find early signs of dementia among data that typically go unexamined. In new research published in Brain Communications, scientists at the Mayo Clinic Neurology AI Program (NAIP) demonstrate how AI can not only speed up analysis, but also alert experts reviewing the test results to abnormal patterns too subtle for humans to detect.
