  • A short story about a scarecrow named Alan 🐤 Last night we received a report of a scarecrow nailed to Low Voltage Electricity pole in Marshfield, near Newport. An Incident was raised and a team was sent to site due to this being raised by a member of the public as a safety issue. The team attended site to indeed find a scarecrow being nailed to our pole. Our team then removed him, and took him from site as there was no person or property to speak to regarding ownership. Today a member of the public attended Lambyway asking for the whereabouts a scarecrow they had affectionately named Alan. We apologised for removing Alan and for any inconvenience caused. We can now confirm that Alan has been returned safe and sound with some PPE to keep him warm. The team also kitted him out with a hard hat and some old boots and wrote a note confirming how good Alan had been in work, whilst he was with us for some 'work experience'. The community of Marshfield were delighted to have him back, and we're grateful to our colleagues for their help in getting Alan back to where he needed to be.

  • 📣 Here's a first look at our new fully electric 4 x 4 utility vehicle! 🎯 This important new addition to our fleet provides us with a clean fuel vehicle that can deliver the performance needed by our engineering teams working in even the most demanding conditions. 🛠️ Developed in partnership with Škoda UK and STRONG'S PLASTIC PRODUCTS LIMITED, the vehicle has been created by converting Skoda's road car, the Enyaq, into a light commercial vehicle than can cope with all terrains. Each Enyaq will: ✅ remove 241g/km of CO2e a year from our fleet - the equivalent of planting around 200 trees to offset the CO2 emitted ✅ be built from high strength, low weight plastic materials to combine rigorous safety with maximum driving range ✅ include the stowage space for specialist equipment used by our engineers. 💚 We'll be adding 70 Enyaqs to our fleet initially and looking to run all of our vehicles on cleaner fuel sources in the coming years, as part of our commitment to reach net zero by 2050. To find out more about the Enyaq, visit our website 👉 https://bit.ly/4giY54S #ElectricVehicles #ZeroEmissions #NetZero

  • It's #WorldEVDay Over the last few years, we have made signifcant investments into Electric Vehicles, with the ambition to reducing emissions across our business, particularly with the vehicles we use. We now have 291 electric vehicles across our fleet, which represents over 14% of available vehicles. Each electric vehicle removes about 241g/km of CO2e or 4,820t CO2e per year from NGED’s commercial fleet. That is the equivalent to planting around 200 trees to offset the CO2 emitted. Furthermore, we have 562 zero emission vehicles on our company car fleet, and the entire company car fleet will be zero emission by Dec 2025.

  • Last week marked the end of the 10,000 Black interns scheme, hosted by The 10,000 Interns Foundation. We welcomed interns across the business in various roles, for them to learn more about National Grid, and explore different career options. One intern we were delighted to welcome was Kuburat Adegoke, who spent eight weeks as a Data Science intern. Here's what Kubarat had to say about her experience. Thanks for sharing, Kubarat!

🚁 Come along with our lucky group of colleagues as they take to the skies in National Grid helicopters at our National Grid Electricity Distribution helicopter base in Bristol! 📸 They experienced firsthand how we use aerial surveying to maintain our infrastructure and learnt about the cutting-edge technology we use every day 🔧 It’s important to showcase what we’re doing to strive towards innovation and excellence, even to our very own teams! 🤝

  • What a purr-fect result from a potentially dangerous situation! 🐾 Earlier this week, one of our colleagues, Craig Day at our Birmingham depot alerted colleagues to a number of kittens in a dangerous situation, close to a live 11kv busbars. Our colleagues, working with Stray Cat Rescue Team West Midlands. were able to source a safe trap to take them away from danger (using some sardines as bait). A big shout-out to our colleague, Jane Walsh, who took these cats in for a few days, whilst searching for an appropriate home. Unfortunately, the mother cat was not micro-chipped so was unable to find an owner and may have been living rough for some time. New Start Cat Rescue Charity were very helpful and are looking after the cat and kittens until they can be re-homed.

  • 📣 A new report shows we're making strong progress on our major connections targets as we respond to a sharp upturn in demand for electricity - but there's still work to do. 📈 Our Major Connections Report for 2024 highlights our strong performance in the first year of the regulatory period (known as ED2). This was delivered against the backdrop of a significant increase in demand for major connections to power initiatives like solar farms and battery storage sites. Achievements include: 🔌 exceeding our target in seven out of eight areas in our Major Connections Customer Satisfaction Survey 🔌 outperforming our target in Major Connections Time to Quote in 18 out of 20 relevant market segments 🔌 making considerable progress against the ED2 commitments we've pledged to deliver by 2028. The report also shows how we've improved the journey for major connections customers by enhancing their digital experience of our service and making greater use of data: 🔌 creating a new customer enquiry portal with an 84% user satisfaction rating 🔌 delivering a new ClearView online platform with Grid Supply Point data 🔌 offering a simplified view of Distribution Use of Service tariffs 🔌 making improvements to our budgeting tools. 🌍 This year, we've also established a new Connections directorate to build on our strong performance and accelerate progress, enabling us to deliver even more for customers as we continue to support the UK's net zero ambitions. • ☀️ It's going to be a scorcher! ☀️ ❄ But, even in the height of summer, our teams are already planning for winter. ☔ In a world where extreme weather events are increasingly common, it's vital we make sure that our network is prepared all year round for whatever the weather throws at it - from flooding and high winds to storm conditions. 🌪 Last year was a record-breaking year for weather events but we're ready to do it all again to keep the power flowing. Visit our website to find out more about our ongoing winter preparedness measures 👉 https://lnkd.in/ewj8m77J
