The NAVFAC SE Contracting department held a two-day symposium last week for it's teammates. The conference provided valuable resources for contracting Entry-Level Employees (ELE) who are part of the NAVFAC New Professionals Program (N2P2) and the Naval Acquisition Development Program (NADP), development and leadership programs. 🧳30 contracting personnel from 10 different field offices in the Southeast gathered at Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville. They participated in training sessions, career progression advice, and in-person networking that built camaraderie among the ELEs. 🎉 Renee Comfort, Chief of the Contracting Office, NAVFAC SE, delivered remarks on the final day of the symposium. Last week, the NAVFAC SE Public Works Officer (PWO) and Deputy Public Works Officer (DPWO) Symposium was held at Naval Station Mayport 🌴 PWOs and DPWOs from across the Southeast gathered for five days of learning, open discussions, leadership training, policy and procedural reviews, networking and more! 📚 Topics encompassed multiple departments including financial, counsel, environmental, CIO, real estate and others. Speakers included OPNAV Chief of Staff (N4I), Capt. Gunderson, NAVFAC Atlantic Commander Rear Adm. Caudros, Navy Region Southeast Commander Rear Adm. Hewitt, and NAVFAC Southeast Commanding Officer Capt. Dieguez. What an exciting day! 🥳 On July 11, Public Works Department (PWD) Panama City combined their "Bring Your Kid to Work Day" and summer All Hands! 🎉 In the morning, the kids participated in fun activities like the Lego "Build-a-Bridge" project which incorporated many departments and their expertise. 🏗 Other lively highlights included the safety activities for confined spaces, high-voltage electricity talk, heavy equipment demos, as well as team building initiatives throughout the day! 🦺 Afterwards, kids, parents, grandparents, and coworkers all gathered outside for a tasty picnic along with the All Hands. Exceptional job organizing this day! Last week during the Core/Public Works Department (PWD) Jacksonville All Hands, NAVFAC SE Commanding Officer Capt. Dieguez presented impressive awards to two, remarkable employees: 👏 🏆 Cathy Horan received the Superior Civilian Service Award from the General Counsel of the Navy. She was recognized for her exceptional leadership and legal work including mission-critical projects in furtherance of our Nation's strategic nuclear defense and deterrence posture. ⚖️ This award is the second highest honor bestowed upon civilian employees by the Department of the Navy. 🏆 Daureen Blythe received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in honor of her phenomenal work as the Utility Program Analyst from Sept. 2011-Sept. 2023. She managed the $200M annual utility checkbook resulting in zero unauthorized commitments and meticulously oversaw and ensured timely invoice payments for all Utility Privatization, Base Operating Support Contracting for Utility Operations, Utility Energy Savings Contracts and Energy Savings Performance Contracting. 💸 Outstanding work! Over a century ago, anyone could work as an engineer without proof of competency. Wyoming changed this in 1907 when it passed the first engineering licensure law. Now, every state regulates the practice of engineering to ensure public safety by granting only Professional Engineers (PEs) the authority to sign and seal engineering plans ✍ 🎉 Today on National Professional Engineers Day, we're celebrating our most recent engineers that have earned their Professional Engineers license!
