As the third quarter begins, we decided to break down the numbers behind the #cellularagriculture food #investment landscape to date for the year. While slower than in previous years, the investment landscape shows early signs of improving from the investment lows of 2023. As of the end of June 2024, the cellular agriculture food field raised approximately $283 million in 16 deals this year. In comparison, the field raised $169 million across 27 deals in the first half of 2023 and $1.23 billion across 79 deals in the first half of 2022. Compared to the second quarter of 2022 ($560.2 million in 24 deals) and 2023 ($71.4 million in 10 deals), cellular agriculture food startups raised $163.6 million in funding across seven disclosed deals this quarter to continue their work. While Prolific Machines’ $55 million Series B funding contributed the most to the second quarter’s funding, other notable funding rounds announced during the second quarter include Mosa Meat's Series C (€40 million) and Onego Bio's Series A ($40 million). Interestingly, cultivated meat companies raised approximately $100 million across three deals in Q2 2024. This is the first time since the fourth quarter of 2022 that cultivated meat startups have raised at least $100 million in a single quarter. While startups in the first half of 2024 raised almost as much funding as all cellular agriculture food investments in 2023 ($306.3 million in 40 deals), the notably lower deal count highlights that investors continue to be selective about which startups receive funding. Considering that the investment landscape is still significantly lower than in 2022, companies will need to continue to achieve significant milestones to raise capital to scale production. #cellag #cultivatedmeat #cellbasedmeat #precisionfermentation #futureoffood #investments

Through June, #cellag egg company The EVERY Company announced partnerships to launch two #products featuring its egg proteins via #precisionfermentation Launched under the brand name Fermy, The Every Company partnered with functional wellness company Landish Foods to launch a protein-infused coffee enhancer and matcha latte mix. Currently available in the US, the Fermy product line leverages The Every Company’s Every Protein, a highly soluble and nearly tasteless egg protein product. In addition, The Every Company announced a commercial agreement with Spanish multinational company Grupo Palacios to incorporate its latest cell-cultured product, the Every Egg, into its Spanish omelet products. As one of the largest global producers of Spanish omelets, Grupo Palacios sells its Spanish omelets as ready-to-eat products in retail and food service locations worldwide. Pending regulation and scaling, The Every Company aims to be sold everywhere Grupo Palacios sells its Spanish omelets. While the Fermy brand is currently available in the US, there is no timeline around The Every Company’s collaboration with Grupo Palacios.
