When Alan Young, founder of Armor Concepts, started dealing with constant break-ins at his property renovation sites, he came up with a clever solution—steel door plates, which helped reinforce the doors. That was in 2004. Little did he know, this DIY fix would turn into a full-fledged small business! As Armor Concepts started gaining traction, Young realized the potential of selling in the Amazon store. By tapping into tools and programs like Amazon's Black Business Accelerator, Fulfillment by Amazon, and Amazon Advertising, he was able to scale his security company to a whole new level. "Amazon gives smaller businesses like mine access to a lot of things that will help you sell your products in a better and faster way," Young shared. "I think once you crack the code in terms of the different advertising and marketing tools that are available, you can really scale." Beyond the business, Young partners with Nashville foundations like Ephesus House and Project Return to hire ex-convicts to work in their warehouse. “If we can continue to grow, and continue making a positive impact," he says, "then that’s what I would like to do."
