The 2024 US Open is finished, and what a fantastic celebration of tennis!👏This year will go down in the record books as the HIGHEST attendance EVER at the Open, and we’re here for it. BUT before all the glamour, excitement and knife-edge matches, there was the arguably less riveting work of building the stadia decking the spectators sit on. We're excited to hear the news about Resorts World Arena's rebranding to bp pulse LIVE! Our team has fond memories of working on the venue back when it was known as the NEC, where we collaborated with our network partners, Architects Workshop Limited & Arena Solutions Limited, to help expand and refurbish the space. SPS terraces helped increase the total capacity to 15,685 seats with the addition of 8,000 permanent seats. It’s been an exciting start to the US Open this week!🎾 With the addition of the hugely popular US Open Fan Week, visitors to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center are welcomed in to celebrate tennis and the Open. It’s a great example of making a large sports complex relevant even before the play starts! As the tournament kicks off over the next two weeks, 10,000 spectators are expected to fill two of the largest courts – Grandstand and Court 17 – BOTH of which have SPS terraces supporting the seats! With work to update the premium spaces in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium nearly complete, we’ll soon have a hat trick of stadia projects in Atlanta!👏 This year, we will see the opening of the Gensler-designed Chairman’s Lounge and Stadium Club, replacing Molly B’s and keeping the Mercedes-Benz offering in line with fan expectations. Experienced SPS installers Steel, LLC have done a fantastic job! In 2016, nearly 5000 sq ft of SPS was used to construct the stands in the upper tier of The Battery Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Roxy, a 4000-person concert venue adjacent to Truist Park. The theatre sees over 40 live acts yearly and keeps the Truist Park excitement going in the offseason and between Braves games. 💪 AND then there is Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion. Delivered by SteelLLC in 2011, the additional upper-tier seating bowl was the first use of SPS for a venue in the US. Taking full advantage of SPS’s tough but slender profile, the new terraces slotted into the iconic Schwedler dome without overloading the foundations! 👉Interested to read more? 🥳It’s the 10th anniversary of when SPS was used to create the Mid-tier hospitality suite for Premier League football club, West Ham United, as part of the iconic London Stadium’s redevelopment into a multi-use venue! Even a DECADE later, this project is relevant to the challenge of stadia construction today. Modern venues depend on corporate hospitality to remain economically viable. Among the many changes in the stadium’s redevelopment, an enhanced first-class Hospitality Suite was incorporated into the stadium design using nearly 950m2 [10322ft2] of SPS terracing and aisle steps! SPS provided a watertight ‘roof’ over the concession facilities below. AND our composite was also used to create additional 'mid-tier' seating between the lower bowl and the existing upper bowl. The Paris Olympic Aquatic Sports have finished, and what a spectacular event it was in such an iconic venue! 👏 At SPS Technology, we know what it takes to build a world-class indoor Aquatics Centre that delivers a modern fan experience all while maintaining the flexibility needed for future events. For the London 2012 Olympics, the London Aquatics Centre, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, expanded its seating from 4,000 to 13,500 using SPS terraces in a demountable configuration. These vibrant yellow terraces boosted the venue’s capacity for the event and added some excitement to the venue’s aesthetics. After the Olympics, the temporary seating was removed, returning the Aquatics Centre to its former role as a public pool (and its glory as an architectural icon). Now that’s adaptability! Watch SPS Terraces being positioned and fixed in just MINUTES! 👇 Balfour Beatty put together this prototype to test the SPS stadia decking system as part of the LONDON 2012 Olympics works. This mock-up was later demounted, reconfigured and reused for the community stands on the athletics track outside London Stadium during it's 2014 transformation.
