The Officer position is responsible for helping the Division of Philanthropy achieve their revenue goals by supporting a large portfolio of volunteer-run community events and consulting with them on fundraising best practices and deepening their connection to Dana-Farber. This position also oversees all recognition initiatives and events in place to steward community event organizers and strategizes on new ways to acknowledge and show appreciation to the program’s generous supporters. This summer, the Red Sox Foundation held its annual New England Service Scholarships Day, where graduating high school seniors from across New England are invited to Fenway Park to engage in meaningful service projects.  This year’s New England Service Scholars tackled three projects aimed at supporting patients and families receiving treatment at Dana-Farber.     “In the simplest terms, Red Sox Nation invests a lot into this team, and it is the Red Sox Foundation’s responsibility to invest, at that same level, back into the communities we serve,” shares Matt McCarthy, Giving and Partnerships Manager for the Red Sox Foundation. Meet more of our 2024 Jimmy Fund Walk Heroes! These Dana-Farber patients share their stories to motivate participants through every step, whether walking a marathon, half marathon, 10K, or 5K. Dee is grateful to Dana-Farber for helping her overcome the odds, saying, “I’m here, over a decade later, having made countless memories with my grandkids who may otherwise not have known me. Gratitude doesn’t cover it. It’s love.” Olivia, 14, shares her advice for others: “Never give in to your fears because they don’t know your strength. When life gives you something that makes you feel afraid, that’s when life gives you a chance to be brave.” Benny, 4, loves dinosaurs. His family thanks the Jimmy Fund Clinic for the early and aggressive treatment of their child’s cancer. Jeremy shares that, to him, Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund means hope, security, and conscientious people. He loves to spend time with his husband watching movies and shows. Karin thanks her entire care team at Dana-Farber and the Zakim Center, and her family, friends, and sister warriors for fueling her healing journey. Colin, 3, loves cars, garbage trucks, and snacks, and he and his stuffed rabbit, Harry, have quickly shared this love with everyone they meet at Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Clinic. Mark found himself as a patient after many years of participating in the Jimmy Fund Walk. When he received his diagnosis, he had no doubt where he’d go for treatment: Dana-Farber. His team has made him feel welcome, cared for, and at peace. Raegan, 4, loves princesses, dancing, gymnastics, and most of all, her big brother, Tyler. Through any tough time, Raegan will say, “We got this, Dude!” Michele is a wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. When faced with an unimaginable diagnosis, Dana-Farber helped her create a new ‘normal’ filled with care, support, and an abundance of hope. Grady, a patient in Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Clinic, was recently treated to a special day with Boston Red Sox player and Jimmy Fund Captain Garrett Whitlock. Grady is currently being treated for Adrenoleukodystrophy. Grady and his brother won an experience to shop at the Team Store with Garrett. They also received a VIP tour of Fenway and visited the Red Sox Clubhouse! ⚾❤ Thank you to Garrett and the entire Red Sox team for making moments like these possible!

“I first got involved with Jimmy Fund Golf after my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. We were navigating being new parents when we received the news, and immediately went to Dana-Farber for treatment.
