Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media in Charlotte, North Carolina, in a mixed zone stop which replaced a scheduled press conference with bad weather disrupting the travel arrangements of many of the media. The coach outlined his satisfaction with pre-season so far, and his hopes for the season.

When asked what he expected this season in terms of silverware and whether he was prioritising any specific tournament, he said, “with the squad we have, we can compete for all of them. If the calendar demands it, we have a sufficient squad for all competitions.”

Ancelotti on the seven players yet to join pre-season training

The coach is yet to count upon seven players in pre-season as Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Ferland Mendy, Aurélien Tchouameni, Kylian Mbappé and Dani Carvajal all enjoy extended summer breaks after international commitments.

“I’m in touch... but yesterday I got mad at Bellingham because he didn’t answer me,” the coach revealed. “I told Vinícius to call him and he picked up right away. He handed me the phone and I was able to talk to him. So watch out!”

Ancelotti on who will start in the European Super Cup

Asked how that late return to action for many regulars could influence his selection choices for the UEFA European Super Cup against Atlanta on August 14th, the coach was clear.

“I think those who won the Champions League should play in the final,” he insisted. “The only thing is that we are missing two players, Nacho and Kroos.”
