In a stunning turn of events at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Team USA's3x3 men's basketball team faced a crushing defeat at the hands of the Netherlands, ending their Olympic run with a brutal 21-6 loss.

The elimination match, witnessed by none other than NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, left the American squad reeling as they were run off the court under the setting sun at the iconic Place de la Concorde.

The game started on a challenging note for Team USA, which was already grappling with the absence of the injured Jimmer Fredette. With only Canyon Barry, Kareem Maddox, and Dylan Travis available to play, the team struggled to keep up with the high-paced game. Despite a quick two-pointer from Travis, the U.S. appeared disorganized, missing several shots and committing multiple turnovers.

An uphill battle for Team USA

Three minutes into the game, the Netherlands took a commanding lead at 5-4 and quickly extended it to 12-5. Their defense and impeccable shotmaking proved too formidable for the U.S. to overcome. The frustration was palpable when Maddox fouled Worthy de Jong, resulting in a technical foul that allowed the Netherlands to further their lead to 17-6.

As the Netherlands continued to dominate, De Jong's relentless scoring sealed the fate of Team USA. With one final two-pointer, the Netherlands ended the game decisively at 21-6, leaving the American players in a state of disbelief and exhaustion.

In the aftermath of the defeat, the team members were seen reflecting on their performance under the Paris sky. Maddox highlighted the disparity in opportunities and support for 3x3 basketball in the United States compared to other countries.

The team regretted the defeat

"It's not visible except for every four years in the United States," Maddox lamented. "There's no professional-level tournaments there. The team we just played has been building and refining that very team for this very moment for seven years now, and we're just in a little bit of a different situation. Those are all full-time 3x3 guys."

Travis echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the unrealistic expectations placed on them. "People that don't know 3x3 will see this and think, 'What the heck are those guys doing? They're terrible. But if you know the game, it's almost impossible to win at this stage. It's so much intensity, and it takes so much out of you. To win two games, and two came down to the wire, it was a hell of a feat for us."

Despite their elimination, Team USA's effort and determination on the Olympic court remain commendable. The shocking defeat serves as a reminder of the fierce competition and dedication required to excel at the highest levels of international sport.
