Klay Thompson's father disappointed his son didn't join the Lakers as a free agent

The Golden State Warriors dynasty is now officially over after Klay Thompson decided to leave and play for the Dallas Mavericks. He was one of the famous 'Splash Bros". Klay's dad, Mychal used to play for Los Angeles Lakers and he currently still works for them on the broadcast team. During a recent SiriusXM NBA Radio Tuesday show, Muchal expressed how disappointed he was that Klay wasn't able to arrive to his beloved team as a free agent. Instead of that, Klay believed that playing alongside Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic would give him a better chance at winning a championship. Currently, Klay has four rings in his power and he made this decision thinking about the fifth.

Instead of congratulating his son for his arrival to the Dallas Mavericks, Mychal Thompson said: "I'm not feeling too much in a congratulatory mood right now. Obviously, it's Klay's decision. It's his life. He's a grown man. ... I was really disappointed. I was hoping, hoping, as you can assess, that he would be a Laker. Obviously, that's the right thing for me to do, and the proper thing for me to do. I really believe in this franchise. This franchise has been so good to me and my family, including Klay. I just thought it seemed like it would be the perfect fit for him to finally come back home."

Can Klay Thompson truly win an NBA championship in Dallas?

Based on how well the Dallas Mavericks played last season, there is no reason to not think he will have a better shot at winning a title with the Mavericks than he would've had it at the Lakers. Although LeBron James and Anthony Davis still play in Los Angeles, the most recent results haven't been encouraging for any playr who thinks about coming to the franchise. Mychal Thompson believes he would've been a great fit but the decision is now made. It's true, the Dallas Mavericks look better positioned to win a championship next season but you never really know until the season starts.
