Heat after Suns playoff exit too much for Vogel

Vogel, who arrived with high expectations, saw his tenure with the Suns end abruptly following a first-round exit in the playoffs.

The Suns finished the regular season with a respectable 49-33 record, securing the sixth seed in the highly competitive Western Conference.

However, their postseason aspirations were dashed when they were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round.

In a statement released by Suns general manager James Jones, the decision to part ways with Vogel was described as a result of a thorough evaluation of the team's performance throughout the season.

"As we said at the press conference on May 1, team leadership including myself, Josh Bartelstein, and ownership would be looking across basketball operations to determine what changes needed to be made,"Jones said.

"After a thoughtful review of the season, we concluded that we needed a different head coach for our team. We appreciate Frank's hard work and commitment."

Despite Vogel's efforts, the Suns management concluded that a change in leadership was necessary to propel the team forward.

Could Vogel head back to the Lakers?

Vogel's dismissal comes amidst speculation about his potential return to the Los Angeles Lakers, his former team.

Lakers fans and analysts have been quick to connect the dots, especially considering the recent vacancy in the Lakers coaching staff.

Before joining the Suns, Vogel had a successful stint with the Lakers, leading them to an NBA championship in 2020.

However, he was let go by the Lakers in 2022, adding an intriguing layer to his potential future in the NBA coaching landscape.

While Vogel's departure marks the end of an era for the Suns, it also raises questions about the team's direction moving forward.

With a talented roster including stars like Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, the Suns have the potential to compete at the highest level.

However, inconsistency and injuries have plagued the team in recent seasons, leading to speculation about their ability to contend for a championship.
