The spotlight in the boxing world turned to Edgar Berlanga since he was designated by the World Boxing Association (WBA) as Canelo Alvarez's mandatory opponent and in recent weeks the name of the fighter of Puerto Rican descent, but born in Brooklyn, New York, to face Canelo in his next fight, sounded strongly, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Among the possible opponents for Saul Alvarez is Edgar Berlanga, undefeated in the super middleweight division after 22 fights with 17 wins by knockout, which according to his opinion during an interview on the YouTube show 'Cigar Talk', hosted by Naji Chill, the nicknamed The Chosen One considers one of the big names in his division for his media impact, only behind Alvarez and David Benavidez.
"I am the third biggest name in the division, only behind Canelo who is champion, and Benavidez who is also champion. In terms of ticket sales, status and name, I'm right there behind them," said the Puerto Rican.
According to the ranking of The Ring, a boxing magazine, after Canelo Alvarez is Benavidez, Jaime Munguia is fourth seeded, while Berlanga appears as ninth on the list.
Berlanga replies to Caleb Plant
Edgar Berlanga last fought in February against Padraig McCrory, whom he defeated in the sixth round. For his next fight Caleb Plant wants to be his opponent and The Chosen One answers him.
"He wants to regain some name recognition by fighting me. He is resorting to tactics to heat up the fight on social media, on Instagram. At first I was fine with him, I respected him, you have to give him his respect because he fought at that level twice, he lost, but he had that experience at that level and at that magnitude.
"But he went on with his stuff, and I felt like slapping him, but I'm sure they would put me in jail, sue me and everything else," Berlanga said.
