While speculation continues about Saul Alvarez's next opponent, one of the most talked about is Edgar Berlanga.

The Puerto Rican American is undefeated with 22 wins and 17KOs and could face Canelo Alvarez.

Awaiting Saul Alvarez's answer

Promoter Eddie Hearn spoke about the possibility of the bout and added that they initiated talks, but nothing is certain.

"There have been a few conversations, but nothing significant. (Berlanga) is the mandatory opponent (of the WBA) and deserves the opportunity. Mexico vs. Puerto Rico, it promises to be a great clash, and we are hopeful that he will be the one who gets the call from Canelo.

"What we have to do is wait for him to pick us and hopefully we'll be the one," Eddie Hearn said in an interview with Fight Hype.

Canelo vs. Berlanga is the better commercial option

Hearn considers that several of the names that have been mentioned to face Saul Alvarez, such as Chris Eubank Jr. or Jermall Charlo, are not more attractive than a fight with Berlanga.

"We are among the options. That's the best way to explain it. He is Canelo's mandatory opponent. I've heard rumors of opponents like Eubank or Charlo, but I don't see them as commercially viable fights, nor do I see them as competitive fights.

"Canelo is a pound-for-pound great. One of the best fighters in the world, but I think Berlanga is the fight to make and obviously we're waiting for that call," added Hearn.
