1312 Stimulus Payment: Who is eligible to get an extra 295-dollar payment from this PFD?

Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced a slightly higher Permanent Fund dividend (PFD) than lawmakers had previously agreed upon.

With a budget that includes over $230 million in cuts, the governor revealed that his signed budget allocates a PFD check of about $1,718 for each eligible Alaskan, an increase from the $1,655 approved by the Legislature in May.

Senate Rules chair Sen. Bill Wielechowski, D-Anchorage, noted that the legislature's May estimate for the PFD and energy relief was around $1,655. However, post-fiscal year-end revenue increases led to the slightly larger PFD.

When is the deadline to apply for PFD?

The deadline to apply for the PFD is March 31 of the application year, with certain exceptions for cases such as disability, filing on behalf of a deceased person, or military personnel receiving hostile fire or imminent danger pay.

From January 1 to March 31, you can apply by visiting the official PFD homepage and selecting "CLICK HERE TO FILE YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION."

You can use an existing myAlaska account, create a new one, or print and submit a paper signature page. Your application is officially recorded once it receives a Confirmation Number.

"To be eligible for a PFD, you must have been an Alaska resident for the entire calendar year preceding the date you apply for a dividend and intend to remain an Alaska resident indefinitely at the time you apply for a dividend. There are other criteria for eligibility under Alaska Statute 43.23.005 and AS 43.23.008," the State of Alaska: Department of Revenue website reads.

"The 'qualifying year' is the calendar year preceding the year an individual applies for a current year dividend. For example, for a person who is applying for a dividend in 2024, the qualifying year is 2023. Eligibility for the dividend program is determined by an individual's residency activity during the qualifying year."
