Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, admitted to cheating on his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff.

Following a report by The Daily Mail that alleged he had an affair with a family nanny, Najen Naylor, over a decade ago. Emhoff was forced to disclose the details of the affair, especially with his wife now running to be the President.

The report claimed that Naylor, who was also a teacher at a private school attended by the Emhoff children, became pregnant during the affair but did not keep the baby.

Emhoff admitted his previous infidelity

In a statement to CNN, Emhoff addressed the affair but did not mention Naylor by name or discuss the pregnancy allegations.

"During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side," he stated to CNN.

The affair was reportedly disclosed to President Biden's vetting committee before he selected Harris as his running mate for the 2020 election.

Sources also revealed that Emhoff informed Harris about the affair well before they got married, and that the relationship with Naylor ended before Emhoff began dating Harris.

Impact on Harris' campaign and Emhoff's public image

The resurfacing of this affair has reportedly caused concern within Kamala Harris' camp, despite her growing support in recent polls as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

Doug Emhoff and Kerstin Emhoff divorced in 2009, citing "irreconcilable differences." The couple has two children, Cole, 29, and Ella, 25, who have both pursued careers in the entertainment industry.

Despite the scandal, Emhoff has remained an advocate for women's rights, particularly on issues like abortion.

In May, he told NBC News that men should view abortion not just as a women's issue, but as a family issue, emphasizing the importance of fairness and equality for women. As the public scrutinizes his past actions, Emhoff continues to focus on his role as the second gentleman and his commitment to social justice.
