David "Big Papi" Ortiz shared a video to Instagram on Thursday revealing he is being extorted by a group of hackers threatening to leak contents from an old phone of his if they don't receive the money requested.

Ortiz, 47, explained how he hasn't used that phone in more than 15 years and believes authorities are close to catching the criminals. The FBI, DEA and Dominican Republic police are investigating the fraud, according to Big Papi.

"The criminals know that we are watching them closely and here in the United States, the FBI, the DEA, and now, in the Dominican Republic, the Intelligence Department and the police," Ortiz said.

He also claims the same hackers committed bank fraud with his account six months earlier and already trying to sell the MLB legend's personal information.

Ortiz, who currently works as an analyst on "MLB on Fox," previously went through something even worse in the Dominican Republic.

David Ortiz remains optimistic

In 2019, Ortiz was shot from behind at point-blank range in a Santo Domingo bar, but fortunately survived and only spent a few weeks in the hospital.

Big Papi started the video by saying he always wants to remain positive, but that the purpose of the Instagram post was to keep his people safe. He doesn't want anyone to get duped by the hackers.

He also admitted to "fear of what could be exposed out there" if the hackers leak the contents of his phone.

The Boston Red Sox icon tallied 541 home runs and recorded 1,768 RBI while hitting .286 throughout his career.
