As the 2024 MLB trade deadline approaches, teams are making final moves to either enhance their playoff chances or prepare for future seasons.

The deadline, set for 18:00 ET on Tuesday, July 30, is expected to be a busy time, with contenders looking to strengthen their rosters and non-contenders seeking to trade assets for prospects.

One key player on the market is Chicago White Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet. The 25-year-old has had a notable season with a 6-7 record and an All-Star appearance. Teams in the playoff hunt view him as a valuable addition, but there are complications.

Crochet reportedly wants a contract extension and prefers not to pitch out of the bullpen, which could limit his market. However, insiders indicate there is still significant interest, and he is likely to be traded before the deadline.

Pirates could go for Bryan De La Cruz

The Miami Marlins have started to offload players, including outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., who was traded to the New York Yankees. The Marlins received prospects Agustin Ramirez, Jared Serna, and Abrahan Ramirez in return.

Chisholm has been a solid offensive player, attracting interest from several teams, including the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners. With Chisholm now in New York, the Pirates may turn their attention to Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz, with expectations that a deal will be made.

The Yankees, having acquired Chisholm, are not finished adding to their roster. They are reportedly in discussions with the Tampa Bay Rays for players like third baseman Isaac Paredes, first baseman Yandy Daz, and reliever Pete Fairbanks.

While there are mixed reports on the status of these negotiations, the Yankees are keen to strengthen their team as they aim to secure a playoff spot.
