NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson has reacted publicly for the first time since the tragic events of last month, where his mother-in-law, Terry Lynn Janway, allegedly took the lives of her husband, Jack Janway, and their 11-year-old grandson, Dalton, in what authorities suspect to be a triple murder-suicide.

In a statement posted on his social media profiles, Johnson expressed his family's devastation and thanked everyone for their support during this incredibly difficult time.

"Our family is devastated by the profound loss of [Terry] Lynn, Jack and Dalton Janway," Johnson noted.

"We have been humbled by the outpouring of love and support during this unthinkably sad time and remain grateful for all of your compassion."

What happened to Jimmie Johnson's family?

The incident occurred on June 26 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, when a call was made to the police reporting a person with a gun at the Janway residence, but the call was abruptly ended.

Bodycam footage revealed the grim scene as officers arrived at the home. A gunshot was heard from inside, which was later determined to be Terry Janway's self-inflicted wound.

Upon entering the home, officers found the lifeless bodies of Jack Janway in the hallway and Terry on a couch with a gun nearby. Dalton's body was also discovered after a search.

Johnson married Chandra, the daughter of Terry and Jack Janway, in 2004, and they have two daughters together.

Chandra's family had experienced another tragic loss in 2014 when her younger brother died in a skydiving accident in San Diego.
