Jim Harbaugh can do better with LA Chargers without Patrick Mahomes

Harbaugh will come up against the Chiefs and Mahomes twice as he bids to turn things around for the Chargers.

The new NFL season is closing in with training camp now kicking off around the league, with players back in the building and taking part in consistent practices for the first time since the first two months of the year.

As ever, there is plenty of intrigue surrounding the new season after a summer of change within rosters, front offices and sidelines. One of those changes saw Jim Harbaugh depart Michigan on the back of a National Championship, returning to the NFL to take charge of the Los Angeles Charges.

Known as a fine player motivator, Harbaugh has a knack for getting the best out of his teams, and many are expecting a comeback season from the Chargers, providing Justin Herbert can stay healthy.

Confidence in the Chargers varies given it is pretty rare for a new head coach to achieve a long playoff run in his first year, but Colin Cowherd has backed the California franchise to rack up 11 or even 12 wins despite the fact the Chargers will be battling with the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes in the AFC West.

He said on his show: "Here's my prediction on what it'll look like. Just like Michigan year one, Harbaugh arrives at Michigan (with) almost no NFL (talented) players and he wins 10 games massively overachieves rising expectations and....So the Chargers and he will overachieve this year. Don't be shocked if they win 11 games, maybe 12."

Harbaugh on his NFL return

Harbaugh has now welcomed his players back into the Chargers building as they begin preparing for the first preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks on August 11.

Speaking about the return for training camp, Harbaugh has said: "It's like New Year's Day. It feels like being born. It feels like coming out of the womb. You're in there. It's comfortable and safe, and now you're out. You're born. Lights are on, it's bright, chaos, people looking at you, people talking at you, and it just feels good to have it happen.
