Team USA's 50M Freestyle Final and the 100M Butterfly Semifinals swimmer, Caeleb Dressel, admitted staying up too late to watch Game of Thrones saw him blow his chance of an individual medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

It was a shocking result after he claimed five gold medals as recently as 2021 in the previous edition of the Summer Games in Tokyo, as Cameron McEvoy became the first ever Australian to win gold in the 50M Freestyle as the USA's hope placed sixth.

Dressel then went on to miss the finals of the 100M Butterfly completely just one hour later, and he was caught in floods of tears in what may be his final ever Olympics if he doesn't chose to continue into Los Angeles 2028.

"Caeleb Dressel says he was up late watching Game of Thrones last night," posted Pat Forde to X.com, formerly Twitter, on August 2. "He's halfway through a four-day swim. Fifty free final and 100 fly semi tonight."

Where to watch House of the Dragon?

HBO's Game of Thrones was one of the most popular shows on television between 2011-2019, competing with The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad, as well as gifting the world star actors such as Emilia Clarke, Kit Harrington and Richard Madden.

It's spin-off series, House of the Dragon, set around 150 years before the events of Game of Thrones, has also done equally well too. House of the Dragon is into its second season and continues to flex big Hollywood names such as Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans and Eve Best, and viewers can stream both seasons via HBO.

It holds an 8.5/10 as viewers continue to tune in to watch Rhaenyra Targaryen attempt to claim the Iron Throne back from her younger brother, Aegon II Targaryen and the Greens who are defended by fearsome fire-breathing dragons.

The final episode of season two can be watched on Sunday, August 4 via HBO and the show has already been commissioned for a third series.
