My Way!

French singer Yseult is leading us to the finish line with a rendition of "My Way," a song popularized by Frank Sinatra but originally French in origin. The crowd is fully engaged, waving their phone torches in unison.

The flame is extinguished

The closing ceremony opened with French swimming star Léon Marchand carrying the Olympic flame. As the ceremony drew to a close, Marchand returned with the flame in a small lantern, arriving from a hot air balloon back into the Stade de France.

The spotlight briefly returns to Paris, and once again, the crowd erupts with chants of "Lé-on! Lé-on! Lé-on!" as multi-medal-winner Leon Marchand appears with the Olympic flame.

With a final flourish, the flame is extinguished, marking the formal conclusion of the Games. As the flame goes out, we near the end of this closing ceremony.

LA 2028!

Billie Eilish passes the baton to Snoop Dogg, who performs "Drop It Like It's Hot" among sandcastles on the beach. The excitement continues as Dr. Dre joins in, capping it off with a shout: "L.A. 2028!"

From the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers to Billie Eilish, Venice Beach is clearly the place to be tonight.

The Olympics have been handed over to LA

Tom Cruise makes a quick ascent up the Hollywood Hills to the iconic sign, where he hands the Olympic flag to mountain biker Kate Courtney. The flag is then passed to four-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson, followed by skateboarder Jagger Eaton, and finally, it arrives at the beach, where the Red Hot Chili Peppers are ready to perform!

It's Tom Cruise...

The Hollywood star, at 62 years old, has just made a dramatic entrance by abseiling down from the top of the Stade de France.

As if abseiling from the top of the Stade de France wasn't enough, Tom Cruise tops it off by jumping on a motorbike and riding out of the stadium.

We're now watching a video of him zipping through the streets of Paris with the Olympic flag in tow, before loading the bike and flag onto a plane.

Into the handover section

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass join IOC President Thomas Bach on stage, symbolically uniting Europe and North America above the Atlantic Ocean.

We've now entered the handover section of the ceremony, with France preparing to pass the baton to the United States as they take on the responsibility of hosting Los Angeles 2028.

H.E.R. is now performing the U.S. national anthem. Fresh off her Super Bowl halftime show with Usher, this should be a breeze for the accomplished artist.

At just 27 years old, H.E.R. is already a five-time Grammy winner, as well as an Academy Award and Emmy Award recipient. She's just one Tony away from achieving EGOT status.

'You created a culture of peace'

IOC President Thomas Bach said: "Despite all the tensions in our world, you came here from all 206 national Olympic committees and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team, to make the City of Light shine brighter than ever before.

"Your performances were amazing. You competed fiercely against each other. Every contest on the edge of perfection. Every performance sparking excitement around the world. You showed us what greatness we humans are capable of.

"During all this time, you lived peacefully together under one roof in the Olympic Village. You embraced each other. You respected each other, even if your countries are divided by war and conflict. You created a culture of peace.

"This inspired all of us and billions of people around the globe. Thank you for making us dream. Thank you for making us believe in a better world for everyone.

"We know that the Olympic Games cannot create peace. But the Olympic Games can create a culture of peace that inspires the world. This is why I call on everyone who shares this Olympic spirit: let us live this culture of peace every single day."

"These Olympic Games could only inspire the world, because our French friends prepared the stage. And what a magnificent stage it was.

"Millions of people celebrating the athletes in the streets of Paris and all across France. Millions of spectators in iconic venues creating an overwhelming atmosphere. More than half of the world's population sharing this spectacular celebration of the unity of humankind in all our diversity.

"The Olympic Games Paris 2024 were a celebration of the athletes and sport at its best. The first Olympic Games delivered fully under our Olympic Agenda reforms: younger, more urban, more inclusive, more sustainable. The first ever Olympic Games with full gender parity.

"These were sensational Olympic Games from start to finish - or dare I say: SEINE-sational Olympic Games.

"The Olympic Games Paris 2024 were Olympic Games of a new era."

Time for speeches

Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet and IOC President Thomas Bach are taking the stage to deliver their speeches. They are joined by six Olympic medalists, representing the five continents, along with a member of the Refugee Olympic Team. Among them is Cindy Ngamba, who made history as the first-ever medalist for the Refugee Olympic Team, winning bronze in boxing.

"Your efforts have been magnificently rewarded today," Estanguet said.

"We wanted strong images. Our competition venues will go down in the history of the Games. We wanted excitement, we got passion. We wanted to be inspired, we got Leon Marchand."

And the music begins

Iconic indie rock band Phoenix took the stage during the closing ceremony to celebrate French artistry and its impact on music. After the athlete's parade, Phoenix energized the crowd with a performance of their hit song "Lisztomania," beginning a tribute to the best of French culture. Fans of FIFA 2012 will recognize the tune. Kavinsky then takes us back with a rendition of "Nightcall."

The Olympic Rings Are Raised

In a captivating display, dancers lifted the Olympic rings into the sky, assembling the iconic symbol above them. The Golden Voyager, joined by its alien friends, played a central role in bringing the rings together. After a playful moment of rolling around and performing handstands on the final ring, the sequence was complete. With the rings now suspended in the air, the Olympics are officially back.

Hymn to Apollo

Benjamin Bernheim delivered a stunning performance of the "Hymn to Apollo," accompanied by Alain Roche and his floating piano, creating a truly mesmerizing moment.

A golden voyager, cloaked in head-to-toe gold, is descending into the arena. The mysterious figure has just made a dramatic entrance, descending from the top of the Stade de France.

The Greek flag has just been attached to a pole and handed over to our Golden Voyager, who dramatically plants the base into the ground, setting off a spectacular light show.

Women's Marathon Medals Awarded During Closing Ceremony

Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands claimed gold in this morning's women's marathon, setting a new Olympic record with a time of 2:22:55. This victory brings her total to three medals at the Games, having also secured bronze in the women's 10,000m and 5,000m events. Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa took silver, while Kenya's Hellen Obiri earned bronze.

During the closing ceremony, the marathon medals were awarded, continuing an Olympic tradition from the early days when medals were presented on the final day.

Hassan, with a beaming smile, received her gold medal in front of a crowd of athletes and a packed Stade de France, capping off her successful Games with this special moment.

Athletes Karaoke Time

After showcasing their athletic skills, it's now time for the athletes to sing. Lyrics are being displayed on the big screen, starting with crowd-pleasers like "Emmenez-moi" by Charles Aznavour and "Medley Éternel" by Joe Dassin. Of course, no singalong would be complete without Gala's "Freed From Desire," which the athletes are thoroughly enjoying.

And now, the crowd joins in for Queen's iconic "We Are The Champions."

Team USA enter the State de France

After flag bearers Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead made their way into the stadium, they will now be joined by their Team USA colleagues looking suave in Ralph Lauren red, white and blue.

Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead Lead Team USA as Flag Bearers

Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead proudly carried the American flag as they entered the arena, the last to walk in for Team USA. Reflecting on the moment, Ledecky said, "There's a lot of countries in front of us, we're the last ones to walk in. That's pretty special since we're headed to L.A. next."

Mead shared that he got a much-needed haircut in the Olympic Village, while Ledecky enjoyed spectating after her races. When asked about the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, Ledecky remarked, "I'll take it one year at a time."

Both athletes cheered for Team USA as they took their final position in the arena.

Ledecky, who was visibly emotional when teammate Bobby Finke delivered the news, and Mead were both chosen by their fellow Team USA athletes to lead the ceremony.

"Congratulations to our Closing Ceremony flag bearers, Katie Ledecky and Nick Mead, who exemplify the spirit of sport and the pride of Team USA," said Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. "Katie and Nick have significantly contributed to the joyous and celebratory atmosphere. We are thrilled and proud to follow them into Sunday's closing festivities."

Angel Reese and others react as US Women's basketball team narrowly avoid Olympic disaster

The streak continues! Despite a fierce challenge from France's Gabby Williams, Team USA emerged victorious in a nail-biting showdown at the Paris Olympics, securing their eighth consecutive gold medal in women's basketball.

In a game that tested their resolve, the U.S. team came together with contributions from debutants Kahleah Copper and Jackie Young, as well as veterans like A'ja Wilson, to maintain their decades-long dominance.

After a game filled with intense competition and pure basketball passion, the global basketball community came out to celebrate their achievement. Gabrielle Union, wife of NBA legend Dwyane Wade, shared her excitement.

Imane Khelif files cyber-bullying complaint

Recent Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif has reached her breaking point and filed a complaint in France for cyber-harassment.

The athlete, who won gold in the -66 kg category at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has faced relentless online criticism and harassment regarding her gender.

Her lawyer confirmed the filing of the complaint on Sunday, August 11.

Authorities order evacuation of Eiffel Tower hours before Olympic closing ceremony

Chaos surrounded the Eiffel Tower on Sunday morning, as the surrounding area was evacuated just hours before the 2024 Olympics were due to officially close in the French capital.

The closure came after a state of panic was caused by a man being spotted climbing the famous Parisian landmark.

The man, who was pictured without a shirt, was seen scaling the 1,083-foot (330 meters) tower earlier on Sunday.

Although it's unclear where he began his climb, he was observed near the Olympic rings on the second section of the tower, above the first viewing deck, which ensured he was much easier to see from a distance.

Katie Ledecky Leaves Paris a Record Breaker

Katie Ledecky, the legendary swimmer, exits her fourth Olympic Games as the most decorated female Olympic swimmer in history. In Paris, she claimed gold in both the 1500-meter and 800-meter freestyle events, added a bronze in the 400-meter freestyle, and earned silver as part of the USA's 4x200-meter freestyle relay team, bringing her career total to 14 Olympic medals.

Ledecky also holds the 17 fastest times in the 800m freestyle and set a new Olympic record in the 1500m. She is now tied with Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina for the most gold medals by a woman in Olympic history, with nine each.

The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. ET, with NBC airing a live preshow at 2 p.m. ET that includes a recap of the Games' most memorable moments. An encore telecast will air during prime time. The event is expected to last just over two hours, featuring over a hundred performers, including acrobats, dancers, and circus artists. US women hold off France to win eighth straight Olympic basketball gold medal

A'ja Wilson scored 21 points and the U.S. women's basketball team survived the biggest challenge of its unprecedented run to eight straight Olympic gold medals with a 67-66 win over France at the Paris Games on Sunday.

No team had been able to push the Americans during this impressive streak of 61 consecutive wins. Only two of those victories had been by single digits before the game against France.

Team USA Bags Final Gold Medal

In a dramatic showdown, the U.S. women's basketball team clinched the gold medal, edging out France 67-66.

The final game was a nail-biter, with France mounting a strong comeback after trailing in the first quarter. Determined to secure a medal on home soil, France fought hard, but the American women, led by A'ja Wilson, stepped up in the last two quarters.

With 17 seconds remaining, France called a timeout after the U.S. took a narrow 63-59 lead, following a crucial free throw by Wilson. In the closing seconds, the game was decided by free throws, with both teams exchanging trips to the line. Kahleah Copper sealed the victory for the U.S. by making the final free throws, securing a lead that France couldn't overcome.

Jackie Young Fouls Out with Less Than 3 Minutes Remaining

American Jackie Young fouled out, giving France another free throw opportunity. A'ja Wilson then hit a crucial 3-pointer, giving the U.S. a slim 1-point lead after France made both free throws. Shortly after, France committed a foul on Kelsey Plum, giving her two free throws. The U.S. now leads 60-57 with two minutes left in regulation.

End of Q3: France 43-45 USA

It's been tough, but the USA have the lead with a quarter to go! Can they get that eighth straight gold?

Sifan Hassan becomes the first woman to win three medals in endurance running at a single Olympics

Sifan Hassan made history by winning the women's marathon at the Paris Games with a time of 2:22:55, setting an Olympic record despite the challenging course. The Dutch runner triumphed in a thrilling sprint finish against Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa, who finished just three seconds behind, while Kenya's Hellen Obiri took the bronze with a time of 2:23:10.

Hassan's victory adds to her impressive Olympic resume, making her the second person ever to win medals in three different distances at the same Games.

Previously, she had won bronze in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. This achievement mirrors the legendary Emil Zatopek, who won three gold medals in different distances at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics.

The marathon's course, which featured 500 meters of elevation gain and steep slopes, provided a monumental challenge.

The race saw significant developments between kilometers 10 and 15, where the lead pack was reduced to 14 runners, including Hassan. The tough terrain of the Meudon forest, especially its fearsome slope, further thinned the leading group, leaving only the strongest contenders, including Hassan, to battle it out.

By the 35th kilometer, the race had narrowed to five key runners: Assefa, Amane Shankule from Ethiopia, Kenyans Hellen Obiri and Sharon Lokedi and Hassan.

Steph Curry stuns with improbable shot over soaring 7'4" rival Wembanyama

Stephen Curry delivered a memorable performance in the final quarter of Team USA's gold medal game, leaving a lasting mark on his international basketball career. Facing France in a 98-87 victory at Bercy Arena on Saturday, the Golden State Warriors guard not only showcased his signature shooting skills but also managed to outplay France's towering 7-foot-4 phenom, Victor Wembanyama.

A striking photo from the game has captivated fans online, showing the moment when Wembanyama, despite his height advantage, leaped to block Curry's shot from beyond the arc.

Unstoppable Curry

Curry's impact in the fourth quarter was undeniable, as he scored nine points in the final 10 minutes to help secure Team USA's fifth consecutive gold medal.

After France closed the gap to just three points thanks to a key basket from Wembanyama, Curry responded with a timely three-pointer that pushed the lead back to a comfortable margin.

Team USA Basketball mocks Noah Lyles after Olympic Gold

After American sprinter Noah Lyles stirred controversy by questioning whether NBA champions should be called "world champions," USA Basketball decided to playfully respond following their recent victory. Despite Lyles' comments being fair and factually correct, they clearly struck a nerve..

Following Team USA's 98-87 win over France to secure the gold medal, USA Basketball took to social media platform X to humorously ask if they now qualify as world champions.

"Are we the World Champs now?" USA Basketball wrote.

The post was clearly a light-hearted jab at Lyles, who had previously sparked debate with his comments.

"You know the thing that hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have "world champion" on their head," Lyles said. "World champion of what? The United States? Don't get me wrong. I love the U.S., at times, but that ain't the world. That is not the world.

Fans respond to USA Basketball post

However, the response didn't quite hit the mark for many fans. Critics were quick to point out that winning Olympic gold doesn't make a team "world champions" in the traditional sense, as the title of "world champion" is more accurately held by the reigning FIBA World Cup winners, which is currently Germany.

"***GOLD OLYMPIC CHAMPS*** FIBA World Cup makes you the world champ," a user wrote.

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has won the Olympic gold medal after Team USA's victory over France in the final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Embiid, who had the option to represent the United States, France, or his native Cameroon, ultimately chose to play for Team USA.

His decision, made after initially expressing interest in joining the French national team, has paid off as he now stands on the cusp of Olympic glory. The 2023 NBA MVP has played a key role in the U.S. team's success throughout the tournament.

Despite his current commitment to Team USA, Embiid has hinted that this might be his only Olympics with the American team. Looking ahead to the Los Angeles 2028 Games, he is considering a switch to represent Cameroon, his birth country, on the global stage.

Embiid's choice to play for Team USA was influenced by several factors, including the opportunity to guarantee his participation in the Paris Olympics.

"It's been a good experience [in Paris]," Embiid noted.

"It's been a grind, being away from home and family for a few weeks.

"But the group of guys we have made it easy.

"Paris is a great city, and the next one is LA. It might not be with Team USA, it might be with Cameroon."

U.S. athlete refuses to share gold and loses in tiebreaker

Team USA's jumper Shelby McEwen did not want to share the gold medal with his New Zealand rival Hamish Kerr and ended up losing it at the end of a long tiebreaker in which both failed repeatedly, so the bar ended up being lowered to define a winner.

Between the two jumpers, they had a total of 11 consecutive failed attempts in the tiebreaker to which they had to resort and in which both athletes agreed, unlike the identical story that three years earlier starred Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi and Qatar's Mutaz Barshim in the final of Tokyo 2020.

Tamberi and Barshim agreed in the final of the last event in the Japanese capital to share a gold medal, a fact that made them great friends.

Both participated in this final as well, but on this occasion the Italian was unable to stand on the podium as he had considerable health problems, unlike Barshim, who took bronze in Paris.

"I have a lot of respect for what they did in Tokyo, but I always thought adding to the history and having the opportunity to make the jump-off would be amazing," Kerr said. "I knew right away that we were going to make history and we did (...) I'm pretty sure Shelby thought the same thing because we looked at each other and it was pretty simple. We both just nodded and got going," Kerr concluded.

German sportswoman drinks Seine water while competing and her health condition is complicated

She didn't win an Olympic medal, nor a diploma, but the memory of swimming in the Seine will stay with her forever. That's the summary of Leonie Beck's story at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The German open-water swimmer competed last Thursday, August 8, and came in ninth place with a time of 2:06:13.4, although what she didn't know was the gastrointestinal problem that the experience would cause her.

"I vomited nine times yesterday, plus diarrhea" uploaded an image on her Instagram stories the swimmer with a face where you could see that she was not on her best days even if she had her thumb up. And is that the swimmer was suffering from severe health problems after having competed in the Seine. A competition that took place in more than 10 kilometers of dirty water where the reigning European champion swam.

But she was not the only one to suffer the consequences of the Seine water. Dutch Olympic gold medalist Sharon van Rouwendaal even decided to take a sip of the water: "I was thirsty and needed something to drink, so I thought: 'Now I'll drink from the Seine'. I didn't care what anyone said about it. The water was nice and cold, it didn't taste like anything."

Team USA going for eighth straight gold!

The US Women's Basketball Team are aiming for an eighth consecutive gold medal in Paris against France.

With the men having won gold against the same opposition yesterday, they'll be hoping to do the double today.

Another memorable performance for Uzbekistan in boxing, as Bakhodir Jalolov wins gold in 92kgs.

Team USA Clinches Fifth Straight Men's Basketball Gold

Team USA has claimed their fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal, defeating France 98-87 on their home court. Steph Curry sealed the victory in spectacular fashion, hitting four consecutive three-pointers and showcasing why he's considered one of the greatest shooters of all time.

France cut the lead to three with a put-back from Victor Wembanyama, but Steph Curry quickly responded with a signature 3-pointer. Kevin Durant then added two free throws, extending Team USA's lead back to eight. It's been a thrilling and closely fought game in Paris.

4Q: USA 82, France 72

Team USA has extended their lead back to double digits, but France isn't out of the game yet. However, France's offense has slowed down in the fourth quarter, and Victor Wembanyama has yet to make a field goal in this period. The game is still within reach, but France will need to find their rhythm quickly.

End of Third Quarter: USA 72, France 66

France is keeping it close, finishing the third quarter with a five-point run to narrow the gap from 11 points to just six-the closest they've been in the second half. LeBron James and Stephen Curry both have 12 points for Team USA.

3Q: USA 63, France 51

Team USA has been gradually pulling away since midway through the second quarter, with the lead reaching a maximum of 14 points following Stephen Curry's fourth 3-pointer and a series of free throws by Joel Embiid.

The Americans are keeping France at arm's length, but the French crowd remains energetic, cheering on every basket. Despite this, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid have been scoring consistently to maintain the U.S. lead so far in the third quarter.

3Q: USA 58, France 45

Team USA has widened the gap early in the third quarter. Joel Embiid has returned to the game, making two trips to the free-throw line in the opening minutes of the second half. France needs to close the gap soon, or the Americans could take control and cruise to victory.

Halftime: USA 49, France 41

Team USA has maintained a narrow lead in a tightly contested game, now just 20 minutes away from their fifth consecutive gold medal. Devin Booker leads the team with 13 points, while LeBron James has contributed 7. The Americans have hit nine of their 20 3-point attempts, including a key shot from Jrue Holiday with 20 seconds left in the second quarter.

On the French side, Victor Wembanyama has impressed with 13 points, and Guerschon Yabusele leads all scorers with 15. The French crowd has been electric, and they'll be fully engaged for the final 20 minutes of Olympic men's basketball until 2028.

2Q: USA 34, France 29

With four minutes to go in the second quarter, Team USA regained their lead with back-to-back 3-pointers from Devin Booker and Steph Curry. The game has been intense, with some trash talking between the teams, prompting the refs to step in and separate Booker and a French player.

End of 1st Quarter: USA 20, France 15

Anthony Edwards hit key 3-pointers late in the first quarter, giving Team USA a 20-15 lead over France. Despite a quiet start from LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, who combined for just 5 points, the American defense tightened up, holding Victor Wembanyama in check after his early baskets.

Team USA Wins Women's 4x400m Relay

The U.S. dominated the final track and field event of the Games, capturing gold in the women's 4x400m relay with a decisive performance. Anchored by Alexis Holmes, the team finished in 3:15.27, setting a new American record.

Shamier Little started with a strong first lap, but it was Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's impressive second lap that created a significant gap. Gabby Thomas extended the lead on the third lap, allowing Holmes to comfortably bring it home.

In a surprising twist, Jamaica fell out of the race during the second lap, clearing the way for the Netherlands to take silver and Great Britain to claim bronze.

USA Faces France for Basketball Gold

The U.S. men's basketball team, featuring a host of NBA stars, will face off against France and their young superstar Victor Wembanyama in the gold medal game. The Americans are aiming for their fifth consecutive Olympic gold.

The U.S. is coming off a thrilling comeback victory against Serbia in the semifinals, with key contributions from LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.

This will be LeBron James' final Olympics, as he has already announced he won't participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Games. Meanwhile, Kevin Durant has a chance to become the most successful men's basketball player in Olympic history if he secures his fourth gold medal.

Team USA win 4x400m men's relay

With Team USA's victory in the men's 4x400-meter relay, 16-year-old Quincy Wilson has become the youngest Olympic track-and-field gold medalist. Although he didn't race in the final, as a Team USA alternate, Wilson broke the record set in 1948 by 17-year-old Bob Mathias.

Wilson is now the youngest American male Olympic medalist in any sport since diver Greg Louganis, who won gold at 16 during the 1976 Montreal Games, and the youngest male American gold medalist in any sport since 1952.

A heartwarming moment during the race saw Wilson cheering on his teammates with wild enthusiasm, signaling a bright future ahead for this young athlete.

American Shelby McEwen Wins Silver in Men's High Jump

In a thrilling and prolonged jump-off, Team USA's Shelby McEwen secured the silver medal after being narrowly defeated by New Zealand's Hamish Kerr, who took gold. The epic one-on-one battle played out alongside the men's 4x400-meter relay, with Kerr ultimately winning by clearing a height of 2.34 meters.

High Jump Heads to a Jump-Off

American Shelby McEwan and New Zealand's Hamish Kerr are in a tie-breaking jump-off to decide the gold medal winner.

There was brief speculation about the possibility of a tied gold, similar to what happened in Tokyo 2021, but both athletes opted to settle it the traditional way, as confirmed by the stadium announcer.

The bar will stay at its current height, and if neither clears it, it will be lowered until one of them succeeds.

Grant Fisher Wins Bronze in 5000m

American Grant Fisher earned the bronze medal in the men's 5,000-meter race.

Norway's Jakob Ingebrigtsen claimed gold with a time of 13:13.66, followed by Kenya's Ronald Kwemoi, who took silver at 13:15.04. Fisher finished just behind, clocking in at 13:15.13.

Gianmarco Tamberi Loses His High Jump Title

Italian high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi came to Paris with hopes of defending his Tokyo 2020 gold medal, but unfortunately, lost his high jump title.

Tamberi's time in Paris was marked by adversity. After vomiting blood twice, he was hospitalized for kidney stones just a day before the competition. Yet, showing incredible resilience, he competed in the high jump finals at the Stade de France.

He cleared three heights, with the crowd fully behind him, clapping and cheering as he attempted each jump. After successfully clearing the first height on his third attempt, the stadium erupted in applause.

Before his crucial final jump, Tamberi turned to the crowd, arms outstretched, soaking in their support. He led them in a slow clap, building momentum as he made his approach. However, when the bar fell, he lay motionless with his head in his hands, as the audience shared in his disappointment.

The race ended in a nail-biting photo finish, with the competitors crossing the line almost simultaneously, leaving the crowd in suspense. After a few tense moments, Russell's name flashed on the screen as the winner. Filled with excitement, she sprinted back down the track, celebrated with her coach, draped herself in the Stars and Stripes, and rang the stadium's Olympic bell.

The crowd erupted again when France's Cyréna Samba-Mayela was confirmed as the silver medalist, securing France's first athletics medal of these Games.

USWNT Wins Soccer Gold at Paris 2024 Olympics

The U.S. women's national team secured gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, led by an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, who made several crucial saves against Brazil. Forward Mallory Swanson scored in the second half, giving Team USA the lead they maintained until the final whistle. This victory marks the team's first Olympic gold medal since 2012.

USA Takes 1-0 Lead Against Brazil

Team USA's Mallory Swanson scored with a perfectly timed run into the box from the left side, putting the U.S. ahead 1-0 against Brazil.

Brazil's forward, Marta, a six-time FIFA World Player of the Year, entered the pitch in the 61st minute as a key substitution, likely playing her final match in what is her sixth career Olympics.

Team USA maintains a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining.

Jason Kelce on his arm wrestle with Team USA's Nicole Heavirland: I hate saying yes

Former NFL star Jason Kelce has explained the thought process that led to him arm-wrestling American Olympian Nicole Heavirland.

As the former Philadelphia Eagle said, being challenged to an arm wrestle is a lose-lose situation as he will be seen as a bully if he wins, but will be ridiculed if loses given he is so strong.

While appearing on the latest installment of the Green Light with Chris Long podcast, Kelce, 36, explained why he initially hesitated to take on the fellow athlete, 29, who is part of the USA rugby team in Paris.

"Dude, I hate saying yes to arm wrestling. Especially when it's always somebody that's smaller than you because it's like a losing situation," said Kelce.

"Like if I win, it's like, 'Oh, look at the big guy picking on the smaller person.' "

"I'm at the Olympics, obviously. And [Nicole is] like, 'Do you want to arm wrestle?' I'm like, alright, I'm not going to turn down arm wrestling an Olympian at the Olympics," he said.

Basketball double final at the Olympics: France vs. United States twice

For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the two basketball tournaments will be decided by the same final: France vs USA.

The hosts are against the big favorite. The most desired match by the organizers and the biggest challenge in the history of French basketball.

The confirmation of this historical fact came with the victory of France in the women's semifinal. They beat Belgium 81-75 in overtime.

They will face the invincible United States, who are chasing their eighth consecutive gold medal and have now won 60 consecutive games. They have not lost since the 1992 semifinal.

The French women reached the final after a crazy match, with both sides taking big leads and the Belgians reacting to tie the game until the final seconds.

What time is France vs USA? TV Channel and Schedule for the Women's Basketball Final in the Olympics

When the organizers of the Olympic Women's Basketball saw their section of the games get underway, they will have almost certainly wished for a final between host nation France, and the United States of America.

That is exactly what they have got, with Belgium and Australia left to fight it out for the bronze medal in the other match.

It is fair to say that had the USA not made it to the final, it would have been an absolute travesty for the nation. They are fighting France for their eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal in basketball, a truly incredible figure.

The semi-final against Australia was an absolute breeze for the USA, as they won 85-64 and effectively strolled to victory.

The Americans were led again by Breanna Stewart, who finished with 16 points, while Jackie Young scored 13 in her second start, and A'ja Wilson had 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Kahleah Copper, who hasn't got off the bench much, scored 11 points in a reserve role.

France did not find it quite so easy to make it to the final, as they had to battle back against Belgium from a 15-point deficit. Les Bleus eventually won 81-75 in overtime at the Bercy Arena.

Nonetheless, it will be a tough test for the Americans given the pressure of having not lost since 1992 and having the crowd against them.

When is France vs USA in basketball?

The match takes place on Sunday, August 11. It will get underway at the Bercy Arena at 15:30 CEST, the local time in Paris.

That means it starts at 09:30 ET.

How to watch France vs USA in basketball?

The match can be watched on NBC in the USA.

Coco Gauff's coach under fire after disappointing Olympics and Canadian Open showing

The pressure is building on Coco Cauff's coach after her poor showing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the decision to take part in the Canadian Open.

Gauff actually said after she had come nowhere near a medal in Paris and then losing in the round of 16 in Canada that she questioned whether or not she should have taken part in the Toronto tournament which was so soon after the Olympics.

She wanted to test herself, but the American tennis star's fans now think that her coach, Brad Gilbert, has not been advising her properly and should be removed from his role.

Gauff wants to win the US Open

It is not long until she attempts to defend her US Open title but after poor showings in Toronto and Paris, confidence around the 20-year-old's chances is at an all-time low.

After the setback in Canada, she was quick enough to acknowledge her shortcomings, saying: "I just wasn't finding my timing well. I had a lot of unforced errors and a lot of double faults. She played steady, and she didn't give me any free points."

US going for soccer gold!

It won't be easy today, but the USWNT will be aiming for gold against Brazil in the women's soccer tournament.

Kipchoge's greatness: He stops at km 31, waits for the last runner... and retires

Twenty-one years ago, Eliud Kipchoge was proclaimed 5,000-meter world champion in Paris. The long-distance runner, considered the best marathon runner of all time with the permission of the late world record holder Kelvin Kiptum, was returning to the French capital to pursue a challenge, a dream: to become the only marathon athlete to win three consecutive Olympic titles.

The feat was enormous, given Eliud's seniority (39 years old) and the demanding course of this Olympic marathon, with ramps of up to 13% gradient. And the Kenyan suffered. It was in the early stages always in the lead group, but when the course reached the first slopes Kipchoge was losing positions.

At kilometer 31 Eliud decided to stop. He knew it was impossible to perform optimally in the city that saw him become world champion 21 years ago. But the greatness of the Kenyan, his respect for a distance that has made him a legend, led him to wait for the last runner to pass, amidst the cheers of the crowd.

Ethiopia's Tola wins Olympic gold in marathon he wasn't going to run

Alas, the passage of time! Law of life. The Olympic men's marathon became a life legend. While Tamirat Tola, who is no longer a youngster, heading for 33, an age that the queen event of the long distance accepts, more knowledge of the body, more control of the invasion of lactic acid, runs towards glory, behind, more than two minutes behind, Kenenisa Bekele suffers.

The legend, 42 years old, once world record holder, one of the athletes who has served as a guiding thread in the sport will then finish thirty-ninth at 5:58 behind his compatriot in the epilogue of his career. The end of a great athlete, the successor in time of Haile Gebreselassie, who was a brigadier in Paris.

Tola, world champion in Eugene 2022, winner of the New York marathon, was crowned Olympic champion, with record in the even (2.06.26) and returned the hegemony to Ethiopia, the country that had been cornered by Kenya since the last boom of the distance in East Africa.

He succeeded Eliud Kipchoge, the best marathon runner in history, even more defeated, who did not even finish - all is forgiven for his greatness - to rescue a gold that his nation had not had since Sydney 2000 with Gezahegne Abera. Tola made the Olympic team at the last minute because of Sisay Lemma's hamstring injury just two weeks ago.

The old guard of the United States' men's team fought back to stun Serbia and reach the 2024 Olympic Games basketball final and LeBron James' message to Steph Curry has quickly gone viral online.

Serbia once led the contest by 17 points as the Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic seemed poised to pull off a miracle but a 32-15 scoreline saw Steve Kerr's USA come back from the brink to book their place against France.

The Golden State Warriors' Curry posted 36 points whilst LeBron scored a triple-double (16-12-10) at the Accor Arena in Paris and the Los Angeles Lakers' star's war cry has quickly gone viral online after the slender 95-91 win.

"One more.. one f---ing more," James said to his teammates. "We already knew we were going to be tested this f---ng tournament.

"Motherf**kin' Chef & Joe [Curry and Joel Embiid], y'all mother**kers carried us tonight. One more goddammit."

The USA have now won all of their games, but this was the first time they've truly been tested and had to dig deep to pull the rabbit out of the hat.

Simone Biles' special gift to her dad as he turns 75 at 2024 Olympic Games: How is Snoop Dogg involved?

Simone Biles continues to show her gratitude to her adoptive father after another exceptional performance at the 2024 Olympic Games with a unique gift for his 75th birthday, which somehow involves Snoop Dogg...

The popular rapper is in Paris, France as part of NBC's promotional campaign for the famous sports event and he has watched Biles take home three more golds and a silver as she continues to forge her legacy as the greatest of all-time.

In fact, he got a lot closer to the 27-year-old than he might have expected from the stands as the Olympian called on him to gift a gift to her grandfather, who adopted her when she was six and whom she considers her dad.

"Snoop gave him a chain now he don't know how to act," Biles' sister, Adria, wrote of a necklace from the 52-year-old Snoop Dogg. "75 looks great on you!

"Happy birthday i love you."

Ronald Biles was spotted wearing the large chain along with a red t-shirt that reads Team USA and the silver Death Row Records necklace perfectly complements his trimmed, but greying, beard.

Biles herself, meanwhile, celebrated by posting, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD" to Instagram along with a selfie of her rocking glittering glasses, a goat necklace and white top and shorts, before she later posted champagne glasses as the family celebrated him.

Travis Scott arrested in Paris after drunkenly attacking security guard at his luxury hotel

Travis Scott arrested in Paris after drunkenly attacking security guard at his luxury hotelX

Travis Scott has shockingly been arrested at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as the rapper was detained for fighting outside of his five-star hotel just hours after LeBron James' victory over Serbia in the men's basketball semi-finals.

Scott, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster, was arrested in the early hours of Friday, August 9 after getting into a physical altercation with a security agent before local law enforcement broke them apart.

"Policemen were called to the Georges V hotel," a statement from the Paris Prosecutor's Office read. "And arrested Travis Scott for violence against a security agent.

"The latter had intervened to separate the rapper from his bodyguard."

Scott, who has 68.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, was taking into custody outside of the the George V Hotel in the French capital's eighth arrondissement (district) around 05:00 CET according to local media.

According to local police, he was drunk at the time of his arrest which happened yards away from the iconic Champs-Elysees landmark in the capital of the European nation which has welcomed the world for the Summer Games.

"He was not in the right condition to be questioned straight away," a source apparently told DailyMail.com of Scott. "So he was put in a cell, where he is still sobering up.

"[He's suspected of] violence against another person, and is being held in a cell."

Draymond Green criticizes Steve Kerr for taking the USA to the brink of the KO and Carmelo Anthony emerges as savior

An NBA star as hit out at the United States' basketball coach after Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and LeBron James combined to rescue their Olympic dreams from the brink of elimination against Nikola Jokic's Serbia.

A blistering 32-15 fourth quarter with the Los Angeles Lakers' James locking down Jokic saw the USA claw their way through to the gold medal game, where they will play Victor Wembanyama's France.

With Serbia's only standout player being the Denver Nuggets' Jokic, they should not have posed too much of a threat to a US team that defeated them 110-84 as recently as July 28 but they found themselves staring down the barrel, something Draymond Green blamed Steve Kerr for.

"Not playing [Jayson Tatum] was wrong," Green said on his Draymond Green Show "We all know it was wrong.

"He should've played. He didn't... From the outside looking in, [Kerr's response] comes off as, 'We made a mistake as a coaching staff.'"

American skateboarder criticizes the quality of his Olympic Games medal

Talk about first-world problems... American skateboarder Nyjah Huston has, incredibly, bemoaned the quality of his Paris 2024 bronze medal.

"These Olympic medals look great when they're brand new," Huston, 29, said in an Instagram story. "But after letting it sit on my skin with some sweat for a little bit and letting my friends wear it over the weekend, they're apparently not as high quality as you would think.

"I mean, look at that thing. It's looking rough, even the front. It's starting to chip off a little.

"I don't know, Olympic medals," Huston said. "You've got to maybe step up the quality a little bit."

Letsile Tebogo hit out at the United States' Noah Lyles by slamming him as "loud" and "arrogant" after the Botswanan defeated the American in the Men's 200m sprint at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The result for the African nation, with a population of 2.4 million people, is being considered one of the upsets of the tournament with the USA expected to claim gold through Lyles just days after the 27-year-old won the 100m sprint.

But after running a 19.46 to beat Kenny Bednarek (USA) and Lyles to the top spot of the podium, Tebogo quickly assured the stadium that he has no plans for the spotlight and plans to leave that to the Americans.

"I think, for me, I can't be the face of athletics," Tebogo told media after winning gold. "Because I'm not an arrogant or a loud person like Noah [Lyles].

"I believe Noah is the face of athletics."

What a turnaround! The USA are now up 91-86 with under two minutes to play.

LeBron James is leading the way with a triple double- 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, while Stephen Curry has 34 points.

This one isn't over!

Team USA score six points in no time, largely thanks to a four-point play from Durant, and Serbia's lead has been cut to five (78-73) with seven minutes remaining.

Just as worrying for Serbia is that Jokic now has four fouls.

Strong spurt to close the third has Serbia in control

After the USA cut into Serbia's lead, the Europeans are back up by double digit points.

Serbia still going strong

It's Serbia ahead 54-43 at the break, with the European side continuing their torrid shooting in the second quarter.

Avramovic has 15 and Bogdanovic has 12, while Jokic has nine. As for the USA, Curry leads the way with 20 while LeBron has 9.

Perhaps the biggest shock is that Durant, who has been lights out at the tournament, is pointless at the break.

Huge upset brewing as Serbia lead big over USA

Everyone was expecting a strong showing from Serbia today, but few could have predicted what we've seen so far today.

Team USA call a timeout after another Serbia three, as the Americans trail 47-33 with a little over three minutes remaining.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone wins gold in 400m hurdles and crushes world record

What a defence from Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, as she claimed another gold in the 400m hurdles.

She defeated Dutch star Femke Bol, posting a time of 50.37 which was good enough for a new world record.

That means her winning streak now extends back to the 2019 world championships.

Serbia in front after impressive first quarter

What a first quarter of basketball that was. It's Serbia out in front after 10 minutes, 31-23, with both teams playing some high quality basketball.

Bogdanovic leads the way with 9, though Serbia have had a balanced performance so far. As for the USA, it's the Stephen Curry show as he has 17 of their 23 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 5-of-7 from three.

Shootout so far

USA and Serbia are underway with a spot in the men's basketball final on the line. The winner will take on France, who defeated Germany earlier today.

So far neither side can miss, with three-pointers flying. USA lead 15-13 after just four minutes.

USA to play for bronze in women's water polo

Australia will play for gold in women's water polo after getting the better of Team USA in a penalty shootout.

Tebogo beats Bednarek and Lyles to gold!

What a performance by Botswana's Letsile Tabogo as he claims gold in the 200m.

Australia back in this one

Australia have fought back and tied the game for a short while when Abby Andrews scored her third goal.

However, Jenna Flynn soon hit back which means the USA now lead 6-5.

USA leading Australia in water polo

The USA were out in front 3-1, but Australia are still in this one and have cut the lead to one thanks to a goal from Zoe Arancini.

The winner will play Spain in the gold medal match on Saturday, while the loser will face Netherlands for bronze.

France will play for gold in men's basketball

Isaia Cordinier kept his nerve to hit a pair of crucial free throws with 7.4 seconds left as France held on to claim a 73-69 win over Germany in the men's basketball semi-finals.
