Novak Djokovic qualified for the semifinals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The 37-year-old Serbian tennis veteran is one win away from winning an Olympic medal, but right knee problems hampered his performance against Tsitsipas and worries the Belgrade native ahead of his semifinal match against Italy's Lorenzo Musetti.

"I'm very worried, to be honest, I don't know what to say. I finished the match and the intense pain appeared. Whether I got hit or slipped, I don't even know," Djokovic said after the match.

Recurring Roland Garros injury

The EFE news agency reports that the twenty-four-time Grand Slam winner felt pain in the right knee on which he underwent surgery almost two months ago, in early June, for a medial tear that forced him to withdraw from Roland Garros.

The Serb said that "everything looked like the fourth round of Roland Garros, where I managed to finish the match and then I discovered that I was injured. I'm happy with the victory, but I'm worried".

What Djokovic made clear is that his priority, ahead of medical opinions, is to play in the semifinals against Musetti: "Even if the doctors tell me that my knee is not right, I will probably go out on court and try. These are unique opportunities to fight for a medal for my country, so I will do my best in the next twenty-four hours to be in a position to fight for a medal for Serbia."
