Gustavus extends road losing streak to three

Recap: Gustavus Foxes vs. Klawock Chieftains

The Gustavus Foxes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell 54-44 to Klawock. Gustavus has not had much luck with Klawock recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Gustavus lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Phin Patrick, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Patrick hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Ashton Patrick was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Klawock's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tanner Smith led the charge by scoring 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristin Ryno, who scored 15 points.

Gustavus bumped their record down to 1-3 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Klawock, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.

Gustavus on the road again on Friday and play against Klawock at 3:30 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Klawock is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Gustavus in Alaska (Klawock is ranked ninth, while Gustavus is ranked 47th). As for Klawock, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gustavus at 3:30 p.m. Hopefully Gustavus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday.
