Baseball Preview: Mercer County Titans vs. Southwestern Warriors

Mercer County is 8-1 against Southwestern since April of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Mercer County Titans will head out on the road to take on the Southwestern Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Saturday, Mercer County made easy work of Somerset and carried off a 12-2 win.

Aaron May tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter Devine, who scored four runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Andrew Tatum was another key contributor, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Southwestern won against Somerset Christian on Monday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Southwestern's pitchers stepped up to hand Somerset Christian a 15-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Southwestern.

Pierce Jasper was incredible, going 3-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Taylor, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Mercer County's victory bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Southwestern, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14.
