For the second year, the Consulate of Portugal in San Francisco and the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency (AICEP) are teaming up to introduce diners to the delights of Portuguese cuisine. But this time they are expanding to the Los Angeles region for Portugal Restaurant Week, which will run from Monday, April 22, through April 28.

The event will feature specials at several Bay Area restaurants — Petiscos Downtown and Petiscos Little Portugal in San Jose; Uma Casa in San Francisco; and sister restaurants LaSalette and Tasca Tasca in Sonoma — along with Barra Santos in Los Angeles, Nuno’s Bistro in Upland and Natas Pastries in Sherman Oaks.

Here are menu highlights:

Petiscos: Carlos and Fernanda Carreira’s two Petiscos restaurants (one location, of course, is the former Michelin-honored Adega) will offer a three-course menu by executive chef David Costa for $45, with multiple choices for each course. For example, you can start with Flamed Chourico (or one of 12 other choices), then move on to Garlic Shrimp (again, a dozen other selections) and finish up with an Orange Tort (or one of five other desserts).

Uma Casa: Chef Telmo Faria has put together a three-course menu for $49, with several choices in each category. Among the options are Rissois de Camarao, shrimp turnovers; Frango Peri-Peri, the spicy Portuguese-African recipe; and Pastel de Nata, the classic custard tart. (At this San Francisco restaurant, the promotion days will be April 23-27.)

LaSalette: In business in Sonoma since 1998 (the 25th anniversary is this month), LaSalette has created a three-course feast for $53. Among the entree selections from chef Manuel Azevedo’s menu are Alcatra, a Portuguese pot roast, and Bacalhau No Forno, a traditional salt-cod casserole with potatoes, onions and olives. Desserts include Rice Pudding and Madeira-Braised Fig.

Tasca Tasca: At this sister restaurant to LaSalette, choose any three tapas from more than 40 selections (think Smoked Duck Breast, Monterey Squid Salad, Braised Honeycomb Tripe) and receive either Caldo Verde soup or Santa Catarina Tuna and Chickpea Salad for $5.
