UPDATED:

LIVERMORE — A motorcyclist died Thursday morning after slamming into another vehicle and being hit by a third after being thrown from the bike, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck about 9:05 a.m. on westbound Interstate 580 north of Livermore Avenue blocked the express lane and four of five regular lanes of traffic until about 11:20 a.m.

Authorities did not identify the motorcyclist immediately, pending the notification of his relatives.

According to the CHP, the motorcyclist was on a 2019 Indian motorcycle and failed to slow down when it approached traffic. The motorcycle struck the rear of a Mercedes SUV, and the driver wound up being thrown two lanes to the left and hit by a truck-and-tractor big rig, the CHP said.

Another big rig ran over the motorcycle itself, according to the CHP. In all, five vehicles were involved.
