Turning wet and windy across the north and west.

Today:

Wet and windy weather spreading across many northern and western parts. The rain will be heavy at times, with gales along western coasts. Warm ahead of this, with hazy spells of sunshine, before rain reaches the southeast by evening.

Tonight:

Outbreaks of rain, heavy in places, will continue to move eastwards through the evening, followed by blustery showers through the night. Staying windy.

Tuesday:

A day of sunny spells and scattered blustery showers. Showers heavy at times, with the risk of hail and thunder, most frequent in the north. Feeling cooler for many.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Further wet and windy weather will affect northern and western areas through Wednesday and Thursday and perhaps more widely on Friday. Feeling rather cool under the cloud and rain.

Over the weekend the weather will remain unsettled for many areas, with outbreaks of rain or showers spreading in from the west. The wettest weather is likely to be across northwestern parts of the UK, with the southeast tending to be drier. Strong winds are also likely, again these mostly affecting parts of the west and north. It is also expected to be cooler in the northwest, and warmer in the southeast. Into the new working week, wetter weather is signalled to become even more confined to northern and western areas, with longer drier periods developing more widely elsewhere. Temperatures overall will probably be close to average, but with a chance of some short-lived very warm conditions in the south and east at times.

A good deal of dry and settled weather is likely across the UK during the first week of September. Some rain is possible at times, but for many areas conditions will probably be drier than average. By the second week of September confidence for settled weather continuing decreases. Instead, it is more likely that there will be a return to a mixture of weather types, with spells of wet weather interspersed with drier periods. After a generally warm start to September, temperatures will gradually revert to being be cooler in the northwest, and warm to average in the southeast.
