Broncos roster review: running back Tyler Badie

Tyler Badie is a former sixth-round draft pick by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2022 NFL Draft and was a running back that the Denver Broncos picked off the Ravens practice squad in December of 2022 to help shore up a depleted position that season.

Running back Tyler Badie’s 2024 outlook

Badie has been a guy the Broncos have liked and kept him around on the practice squad all last season under Sean Payton’s first season as head coach. He played a little during the 2022 season and has one rush for no gain and one reception for 24 yards and a touchdown.

However, he’s going to face an uphill battle this training camp as the Broncos have really added a lot of bodies to the running back room. Badie will be competing with running backs who excel at catching balls out of the backfield. That is his bread and butter as he has the speed to run by defenders and the agility to make people miss at times.

If he continues to excel in that area, he could end up on the practice squad again this year. As for the active roster, it will come down to how well the running back competition goes for him in training camp this August.

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned, the running back room is going to be competitive. Along with Badie here, there will be holdovers from the 53-man roster in Javonte Williams, Samaje Perine, and Jaleel McLaughlin. However, Denver also added rookie Audric Estime in the fifth-round of the 2024 NFL Draft and an intriguing undrafted free agent in Blake Watson.

That’s a pretty stack room competing for what is likely three spots on the 53-man roster and maybe a couple of practice squad spots. It’s going to be a fun training camp for fans to watch the running backs this year.
