Gordon Ramsay has opened up about the death of his beloved son, Rocky, after his wife Tana suffered a miscarriage five months into her pregnancy.

The British chef described the tragic event, which struck the VIP couple in June 2016, as "a trauma" that was "really tough" on his family. At the time, he and Tana were already the proud parents to four children, Meghan, Holly, Jack and Tilly. They went on to welcome Oscar James Ramsey in 2019, three years after the loss of Rocky.

"Losing Rocky was really tough, and then just being there and watching the trauma unfold, it's just this life-changing moment," Gordon, 56, told People in a recent interview.

He goes on to say that the family had had an "incredible celebration" that "everything was going fine" despite Tana having "always struggled with her bloods." Sadly, things took a turn for the worst in the cookbook author's second trimester when she and Gordon learned that Rocky was not going to make it.

"And all of a sudden it just changes within 24 hours," he admitted. "So, I think if anything it bought the whole family together, closer, Jack's still got the little dog tag with Rocky."

In October 2021, Tana took to Instagram to mark what would have been Rocky's fifth birthday with a poignant message.

"If all had gone as we hoped yesterday 14/10/21 would have been our little boy Rocky’s 5th birthday, the day he was due not the day he was actually born when he was too little to survive," she captioned the post. "Not a day goes by when we don’t think of him, but, it wasn’t meant to be," she continued. "We have gone on to be blessed and will be eternally grateful, but shall always remember our angel baby with a heart bursting with love and many many tears."

Gordan has since revealed that he and Tana are open to the prospect of expanding their family, telling the Daily Mail in 2021 that they've discussed "have another baby" in the future.

"She said: 'Well, let’s start planning'. So I’m like: 'Oh my god, just pause for two seconds. I’m going to be the oldest dad at school, what’s going to happen on sports day?' But it’s something we’d still consider, because it’s been such a joy spending time with Oscar," he admitted.

Gordon, who lives in an £8 million luxury pad in South London with his family, is known to have strict rules for his five children. The MasterChef star has never been shy about his no-nonsense parenting, previously admitting he forbids his children from swearing and has banned them from inheriting his fortune.
