Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks has been given the royal seal of approval after over a decade of animal welfare work.

He is one of the first people to be announced as a Dogs Trust ambassador since the King became patron of the charity this year. Pete, 35, said it is an honour to be given the role.

The star, who has signed up for BBC show Strictly, which returns next month, told the Mirror: “For many years, I’ve been part of and aware of the great work by Dogs Trust.” Pete, who made his name on the reality series TOWIE, filmed with the charity for his forthcoming UKTV documentary, For Dogs’ Sake, which shows him rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming vulnerable hounds.

Pete, who owns two rescue dogs, Eric and Peggy, said he has always supported the idea of “adopt, don’t shop”. The charity’s chief executive, Owen Sharp, said: “Pete has shown nothing but love and compassion for the animals in our care over the years he has supported us.

“His enthusiasm for the work we do is so genuine.” The King took over as patron from the late Queen.
