Ryan Gosling took a brutal swipe at Barbie rivals Oppenheimer as he presented an Oscar Award alongside Emily Blunt.

The pair, whose hit movies go up against each other in a number of categories at the 96th Academy Awards, took aim at each other with Ryan blasting Oppenheimer for riding on "Barbie's coattails".

As the pair paid tribute to all the stunt performers in cinema history, Ryan jibed: "I figured out why they call it ‘Barbenheimer’ and they didn’t call it ‘Oppenbarbie.’ I think you guys are the tail end of that cause you were riding Barbie’s coattails all summer."

However, Emily wasn't prepared to take the shot lying down and mocked Ryan for "painting" his abs on, insisting it is something her co-star Robert Downey Jr would never do.

The funny skit had the crowd in hysterics as they acted out the bitter rivalry in great fashion. It was also well received by fans online. One user on X, former Twitter, gushed: "i love emily blunt and ryan gosling."

The opinion was echoed by another who said: "If Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling presenting Oscar nominees is a glimpse at The Fall Guy, it’s going to be incredible." And a third added: "It takes good writing and good performing to elevate the bits during award shows. Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling (and whoever wrote it) got it done."

This year's Oscars boasted 24 categories, giving it the title of one of the most wide-ranging film awards, and sometimes it can boost the fortunes of a small movie with just one nomination. This year is no exception, with the German war drama The Zone of Interest, which focuses on the daily life of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss as he tries to build a life with his family next to the concentration camp. The critically-acclaimed movie has been nominated for Best International Feature Film, as well as Best Sound, which is the award it won at the BAFTAs last month.

The team behind Godzilla: Minus One were also celebrating after they landed an unexpected nomination for Best Visual Effects, as they made history as the first Japanese-language film to be nominated in the category. Footage of them finding out about their nomination went viral on social media, and the 37th movie in the Godzilla franchise became one of the surprise cinema hits of last year.
