A woman was left seething after she claimed her Airbnb host made 'unreasonable' demands of her and her family - none of which were mentioned in the property listing when she booked.

When you go on holiday, you expect the process to be fairly without incident, and that it'll be stress-free in terms of where you're staying - but one woman claimed that the Airbnb she was staying in had been the "worst experience" she'd had so far. It merely added insult to injury for her when the host of the property began sending reams of texts, asking her to complete many tasks before they left.

Taking to Mumsnet, the woman alleged that the Airbnb host had made "checkout demands", but she was planning on ignoring them, and was wondering whether it would be unreasonable not to carry them out.

She wrote: "I have now received a list of tasks to do on check out, none mentioned in the property listing. They include stripping off beds and taking all sheets and towels downstairs, emptying bins in the kitchen and bathrooms and taking to bins halfway down the lane. I feel like f**k off do it yourself. We paid enough for the place. I know people did it in Covid with sheets etc, but there is absolutely no reason to now."

In the responses, people were divided, with 67% saying she wasn't unreasonable, and 33% saying she was. "Stripping beds and emptying bins seems like a pretty reasonable request to me", someone said. Another warned: "I think those requests are pretty typical and refusing could cost you any deposit you've paid."

A Mumsnetter said she wasn't unreasonable, writing: "If you're paying an additional cleaning cost then I don't think you're unreasonable. I always put dirty towels in the bath or on shower room floors. I never strip the beds. I do dispose of the rubbish but normally the day/night before, I wouldn't go out, especially for a few bits. I always wash up and wipe sides but that's just habit".

Someone who runs an Airbnb commented: "I always strip the beds and empty the bins. This is just good manners. I run an Airbnb myself and while I don't give instructions to my guests, it is always very appreciated if they can leave the place tidy-ish as this means the cleaners can spend their time doing an extra deep clean."

The Mirror contacted Airbnb, and a spokesperson said: "We want guests to have the best possible experience on Airbnb, which is why we ask Hosts to ensure checkout instructions are visible to guests prior to booking. Listings with repeatedly low ratings from unreasonable tasks may be removed from Airbnb. With over 1.5 billion all-time guest arrivals on Airbnb, issues are rare, and our global Community Support team is available 24/7 to assist."
