Kate Middleton has gone against advice Queen Elizabeth II stuck to throughout her life, following a touching conversation with a young fan.

Princess Kate, who is currently undergoing treatment for preventative chemotherapy, previously opened about one of her favorite foods during an official outing to Great Ormand Street Hospital back in 2018. While speaking with four-year-old Rafael Chana, Kate, 42, learned that the youngster loved olives, and shared her own passion for the small fruits, which are known to contain powerful antioxidants.

During their sweet exchange, Kate, who has stepped back from Royal duties following her recent cancer diagnosis, shared: "I used to eat lots and lots of olives when I was little as well."

Offering a little more insight into Kate's love of olives, Royal correspondent Rebecca English took to the social media platform X - formerly known as Twitter - writing: "The Duchess of Cambridge [now Princess of Wales] revealed today that her daughter, Princess Charlotte, loves olives and she encourages both her and Prince George to cook with her."

Although Royal watchers were delighted by this rare peek into the Royal kitchen, this candid admission actually went against Queen Elizabeth's strict golden rule regarding food. The late monarch didn't want to have her favourite food ruined by having it served up at every engagement, preferring variety, and so refrained from revealing what she enjoyed most when out and about.

It would appear the Princess of Wales has no such qualms however, and she's previously opened up about mealtimes in the Wales' household during a chat with former Great British Bake Off judge Mary Berry. Joking that Princess Charlotte 'obviously loves her Charlotte potatoes', foodie Kate shared: "We grow our own vegetables, we've got carrots, beans, beetroot's a massive favourite, Louis absolutely loves beetroot."

Although the late Queen preferred to keep her go-to meals a mystery, some of her preferences have previously come to light. A 2022 article in Food&Wine magazine revealed she had a fondness for delicate sandwiches filled with smoked salmon and cream cheese, venison hamburgers, and chocolate biscuit cake. She was also reportedly rather partial to a refreshing gin cocktail, with gin and Dubonnet being her tipple of choice.
